Angel McDONNELL, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randy McDONNELL of Mount Ayr, and Jeff SCOTT, son of Mr.and Mrs. Ron SCOTT of Mount Ayr, were the Mount Ayr Community high school royalty for homecoming festivities last weekend.

Fifteen years of public health nursing in Ringgold county -- that is what Gay HIGHTSHOE (Mrs. Ed) of Creston and Carolyn KELLEY (Mrs. John) of Fairfield started in August of 1972. Mrs. HIGHTSHOE is still in public health nursing in Union county and Mrs. KELLEY is a surveyor for nursing homes in Fairfield. There are still two nurses - Marcia SHOWALTER and Jane SCHNOOR -- who staff the expanded Ringgold county program now, in addition to eight other employees.

Neighborhood Center staff and clients are anticipating new quarters hopefully by early October. They have been located in the building at the southeast corner of the square for the past seven years. The Neighborhood Center will be moving to 202 North Taylor Street in quarters being remodeled by owners of the building -- Jim and Doug HYMBAUGH -- who operate Doc's Place in the southwestcorner of the complex.

Ringgold county had one 4-Her exhibit a steer in the Beef-of-Merit show at the Iowa State Fair. Preston HAYES, Ringgold County Extension director, said that Lonnie VOTAVA of Diagonal participated in the class, ending up with the second runner-up in the Charolais division. VOTAVA received a leather show halter for his placing.

Michele RIVERA, daughter of Joe and Barbara RIVERA, formerly of Mount Ayr and now of Greenfield, is a semi-finalist in the National Merit Scholarship competition.

Brian Wimer and the Wimer Draft Horse Team, Iowa State Fair

Teams of horses showed their strength in the horse pull held at the Iowa State Fair. A team of Belgians driven by Mike WIMER of Mount Ayr pulled to a fifth place finish in the under 3,300-pound class in the state fair event. Mike's father, Jerry WIMER of Mount Ayr, had a third place finish in a heavier division. His father-in-law, Allen DAVIDSON of Grant City, MO, placed seventh and uncle, Bill WIMER of Grant City, MO, placed first in various divisions in the horse pull at the state fair.

Three Ringgold county farms were recognized as Century farms during the recognition ceremony held at the Iowa State Fair this summer. Honored this year were farms of Loren C. AXTELL of rural Mount Ayr, which has been in the family since 1880; the farm of Harold and Eloise BROWN of Tingley, which has been in the family since 1887, and the farm of Irma MILLER HUNTSMAN of Beaconsfield, which has been in the family since 1884.
