RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, March 01, 1956

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Congratulations are extended to Mrs. Blanche GOLLIDAY of Benton for having won third place in a contest conducted to select the best Sunday school teacher in the United States. The contest was sponsored by the Rev. Edythe STIRLEN who broadcases from radio stations in Shenandoah through the SOS Signal and through broadcasts.

Formal announcement was made of the candidacy of Earl T. HOOVER for the Republican nomination for state representative from Ringgold county. Mr. HOOVER is well and favorably known throughout Ringgold county and the state of Iowa, having served as county treasurer from 1933 until 1950, when he resigned, and as a member of the house of the 55th and 56th general assembly.

Harry D. HETZEL, Standard Oil agent in Mount Ayr, was recently presented a saftey award from the Standard Oil Company. Mr. HETZEL has an enviable record of having served his customers and operated a Standard agency for 27 years without a preventable accident.

Raymond BARKER of this city suffered a fractured right ankle Sunday when the saddle horse he was riding fell with him. Mr. BARKER was riding on South Taylor Street and as he came on to Highways 2 and 169, adjoining the Phillips 66 station to the south, the horse slipped on the pavement and fell. The rider was unable to release his foot from the stirrup and and it was caught under the horse as it fell. Mr. BARKER was taken to the local hospital where surgery was performed that evening and where he remains a patient.
