Robert LESAN, a graduate of the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, is employed at the X.T. PRENTIS Hatchery and Feed Store in Mount Ayr.

Alice NUTTING, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O.E. NUTTING, of Albion, MI., formerly of this vicinity, recently won the women's oratorical contest at Albion College with an original oration. Miss NUTTING won a $25 cash prize and the honor of representing the college in the Michigan state oratorical contest to be held March 1.

Ringgold County topped all Iowa counties in 4-H colt club activity for 1939, in the county contest sponsored by the Iowa Horse and Mule Breeders Association, according to information received from Wayne C. JACKSON, field representative of the association. In annexing the high award for the best county program of 4-H colt work, Ringgold County will receive a trophy awarded by the association. Polk County ranked second in the state contest.

A group of girls met recently in the home Ernestine SHEIL and organized a club called th "Six Blue Ribbons." Members of the club are Alice GREENMAN, Harriet SMITH, Ernestine SHEIL, Norma ROBISON, Beverly VAUGHN and Norma SWARTZ.

Given special recognition at the close of the agriculture and homemaking evening school classes were Mrs. W.H. McFARLAND, Mrs. Bertha McANINCH and Mr. and Mrs. Frank SWANSON, who ha two years of perfect attendance. Mr. SWANSON missed only one meeting in three years and John TRIGGS, Miller CHRISTIANSEN and A.A. WATSON attended all the meetings this year.

  • January 28, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Walter STUCK, weight eight pounds, Decatur County Hospital, Leon

  • January 28, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Alva COWELL, Washington Township, weight nine pounds

  • January 29, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. BENNETT, Liberty Township
  • January 29, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Claude RIENHART, Middle Fork Township, weight eight pounds
