RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, December 01, 1983

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Grand Valley Community district voters gave an overwhelming "no" vote to a proposed enrichment tax levy for the school district in an election held Tuesday. According to results from Decatur county auditor Douglas AKERS, the vote was 225 against the proposal and 138 favoring the proposal, or 61 percent of those voting casting votes against the measure.

Joan WALTERS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis WALTERS of Beaconsfield and a senior at Mount Ayr Community high school, has been named as the winner of the Daughters of the American Revolution citizenship award for the Mount Ayr Community school and was chosen over four other area winners to go on to district competition.

Residents of the Clearfield Community and Diagonal Community school districts are being asked if they want to expand academic program sharing for the 1984-85 school year in a survey being circulated in both districts. This year the combined seventh grades from both districts are attending classes at Diagonal while the combined eighth grades from both districts are attending classes at Clearfield. Keeping the present program of sharing is one option.

A new postmaster has been named at Diagonal recently. Gail HOOD, an employee of the United States Postal Service in Creston, has been promoted to the position. HOOd joined the mail service in Creston in November 1974.

A picture by Ben A. WALTER, 14, of Mount Ayr, has been chosen to represent Iowa in the 10th Annual National 4-H Photo Exhibit, sponsored by Eastman Kodak Company. He is the son of Kenneth and Donna WALTER. WALTER'S exhibit print features his little brother "trying to help."

A Grand River student at Hawkeye Institute of Technology in Waterloo has helped the school's livestock judging team tak seventh and ninth places at two recent national contests. Ed HEWLETT of Grand River placed fifth in the hog judging and sixth high overall in individual competition to help the team.
