After graduation from Mount Ayr Community High School, Larry WYER enlisted on July 19, 1958 in the U.S. Air Force. He received basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, then went to Sheppard Air Base, also in Texas. Larry was sent to Alaska in November of 1958 where he served two years in security.

In November of 1961, Larry was assigned to Beale Air Force Base in California.

During his service, Larry was awarded the Outstanding Service Award, Good Conduct Medal and Expert Marksman.

Larry was dicharged with the rank of Airman 1st Class in April of 1963.

Larry's older brother Marvin Dale WYER also served in the U.S. Air Force.
