SSGT Cecil I. STAATS enlisted on July 27, 1940 at Fort Des Moines during World War II, serving with the U.S. Army, Company L, 381st Infantry Regiment, 96th Infantry Division. S SGT STAATS was K.I.A. January 26, 1945 at Santa Margarita, Samar, Philippine Islands when going to the aid of another soldier during Task Force 58-A. S SGT was awarded posthumously the Awarded Combat Infantryman Badge, Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star for the Leyte Campaign, WWII Victory Medal, and the Honorable Service Lapel Button. Interment was made at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
