WALLACE MORELAND

Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, April 23, 1987

A Mount Ayr veteran was awarded the Purple Heart almost 42 years after he was wounded in action during World War II in ceremonies at the Mount Ayr American Legion building Saturday. Bill RUSK awarded the medal to Wallace MORELAND of Mount Ayr, who was wounded May 22, 1945 in Okinawa, where he was serving with the U.S. Marine Corps. MORELAND was also given the World War II Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal, World War II Victory Medal and World War II Rifle Marksman Badge.
