Marion CREVELING, the son of Carl and Mary (TOMAN) CREVELING, was born in 1921, and has lived in the Ellston vicinity all of his life. He graduated from Ellston High School in 1931. He lived in the Iven CREVELING home, farmed, and was involved in the buying and selling of sheep.

Marion was called to service in the U.S. Army during World War II on Febuary 4, 1943. He served 30 months in the Medical Corps in the South-West Pacific.

Upon his return to Ellston, Marion and his brother Kenneth bought the Frank ADAMS hardware store. They added a service station and bought two trucks for general hauling.

In 1950, Kenneth was called into service with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

The brothers sold the trucks and Marion continued in the hardware and service station business for twenty years.

Marion married Naomi JOHNSTON, daughter of Luther and Nellie (BUELL) JOHNSTON. They were the parents of three sons, William "Bill", Robert "Bob", and Dennis. Marion and Naomi moved to the JOHNSTON farm located 1 3/4 miles south of Ellston. The JOHNSTON farm had been in the JOHNSTON family since 1896.

SSgt. Marion V. Creveling was born and raised in Ringgold County.

Marion left Iowa and joined the United States Army in March of 1943. Marion completed basic and medical corpsman training in the states before shipping out to the Pacific Theatre for over two years.

SSgt. Creveling was assigned to the 8th Portable Hospital. His duties as a combat medic sent him to such exotic places as Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea and Southern Philippines where he spent these two years patching up wounded soldiers.

Marion stated that he has done just about everything that a hospital does to treat a wounded soldier.

Marion was discharged from the Army in Dec. 1945 and returned to Ringgold County where he owned and operated a hardware and trucking business in Ellston.

Marion and Naomi were blessed with three boys, Dennis, Bob and Bill. Marion now resides in the Mount Ayr Health Care Center.
