Prentis family reunion

  • Several descendants from the X.T. and Gladys Tennant Prentis family gathered on June 6, 2015 at the Randy and Marcy Gregg home.

Attending were Amy Palmer from Helena MT, Susan and John Kruger from Isabella, MO, daughters of Jean Prentis Reger Holloman; Raymond Prentis, Houston, TX, and his children, Julie and Steve Watts, Houston, TX and Tim and Merry Prentis from Estero, FL; Barbara and Timothy Blanchard, Pequot Lakes, MN, daughter of Anne Prentis Wittman, Ellen Prentis Powell, daughter of Richard Prentis and Randy, Marcy and Rachel Gregg, Mount Ay, IA, son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter of Ellen Prentis Powell.

Deborah Prentis Schular, granddaughter of Fenton Prentis, brother of X.T. Prentis, came to Iowa from Clearwater, FL. We were delighted to get to know our second cousin.

The family museum was toured and enjoyed by one and all. Randy has collected a lot of memorabilia from the Prentis Hatchery, items from the Civil War and X.T's stint in the Iowa Senate, House of Representatives, and Tax Commission and a satchel he used when he sold the first baby chick incubators. He has many pictures of our ancestors matted, framed and hung on the wall, from our personal genealogist, Julie Watts. Scrapbooks were shared by Barbara Blanchard and Ellen Powell which included many letters, pictures, etc. also contributed by Julie.

Everyone enjoyed touring the house where the Prentis children were raised and seeing the door where "Nana" kept track of their height and weight. The house is occupied now by Ellen's grandson, Ryan Prentis Gregg.

Those unable to attend were Jim Wittmann of Frennwich, CT, Kathryn Wittmann of Lincoln, NE, Charles Reger III of Austin, TX, David Reger of Elmira, NY, and Jean Holloman of Raleigh, NC. We know how much Vicki Prentis would have enjoyed seeing everyone, and we miss her every day.
