His mother died when he was two-years-old, and his father afterward moved to Portage County, Ohio, residing in that State until his death.

At that time the land was an uncultivated prairie, but now he has fine buildings, and the land all under cultivation and well stocked with horses and cattle.

In 1846 Mr. WILCOX married Mary JOHNSON, also a native of Pennsylvania. They have five children; four are living - Willis W., Seth L., Nora T. and Mark D. Mr. and Mrs. WILCOX are members of the Methodist Episcopal church.

NOTE: Joseph WILCOX died in November of 1903. Mary (JOHNSON) WILCOX was born July 9, 1826, and died May 16, 1891. Joseph and Mary were interred at Tingley Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa.
