William LUCAS, one of the first settlers of Union Township, settled on section 6, in August, 1855. He entered
over 1,000 acres of land, giving to each of his children 120 acres of prairie, and twenty acres of timber land. He has
been a hard-working man, and has assisted materially in the development of his township.
Mr. LUCAS was born in Maryland, but when seven years of age was taken to Ohio, where he was reared. He married Margaret
CARSON, and to them were born eleven children, seven of whom came to Iowa with the parents, and one was born in Ringgold
County. These are - Elizabeth,
Emeline, Sarah, Margaret (deceased), William L., Elreta, Oscar and Byron. Mr. LUCAS died
February 2, 1876, aged seventy-six years. His widow survives him, and is still a resident of Ringgold County.
NOTE: William LUCAS was born in 1799, and died February 2, 1876. Margaret (CARSON) LUCAS
died at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 18 days. William and Margaret were interred at Cornwall Cemetery,
(a.k.a. Haight or Silver Street Cemetery) at Thayer, Union County, Iowa.
William LUCAS was born in 1859, and died 1942. His wife Alice was born in 1858, and died in 1947. William
and Alice were interred in Oakland Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa.
