Elihu G. MARTIN
First Mayor of Mount Ayr

Elihu Granville Martin was born in 1832, Salem, Ohio. He enlisted at the age of 29 years as a Private on September 8, 1862, and was assigned to Company G of the Twenty-ninth Iowa Infantry, stationed at Helena (Phillips County) Arkansas. He was mustered out of service on August 10, 1865, New Orleans, Louisiana. After the War, Elihu served as Mount Ayr's first mayor from 1875 to 1878, and from 1880 to 1881.
