MARLIN E. FOGLE

Marlin E. FOGLE was born July 26, 1907, Diagonal, Iowa, the son of Frank and Mary (ZARUBA) FOGLE, Jr., Czechoslovakian immigrants. He grew up in Diagonal with his brother Leonard (1904-1961). As a youth, Marlin helped with the family produce and implement business located on Main Street of Diagonal. Marlin graduated from Diagonal High School in 1925. He received his Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Iowa in 1930, and his Doctorate Degree from Columbia University in 1933. His degrees were in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrochemistry, and electronics. While attending Columbia University, Marlin spent his summers working for Western Electric in Chicago, Illinois and at DuPont in Buffalo, New York.

Dorothy GRAHAM of Shellburg, Iowa and Marlin were married in 1931.

In September of 1946, Dr. FOGLE and several stock holding partners founded of Q.V.S. Incorporated, which manufactures and develops electrical and electronic instruments, and, plots out designs and schematics for components such as circuit boards and multi-deck switches. The company continues to sell sophisticated equipment to the U.S. military.

Marlin's continued interest in his hometown of Diagonal led to the acquisition of land west of town which was developed into a wildlife habitat and a 45-acre lake which was named Fogle Lake. The habitat was named the Marlin E. FOGLE Recreational Area. The habitat provides facilities for fishing, hunting, hiking, and camping.

Mr. and Mrs. FOLGE were the parents of three children: Stephen, also a mechanical engineer; Fredric Dean "Fred", and engineer and a lawyer; and Karen (FOGLE) RUSSELL, a New Jersey State Superior Court Judge.

Mrs. FOGEL died in June of 1988. Marlin died in September 3, 1998. They were interred south of Diagonal at the Bohemian Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa.
