If you see this panel, you're still using Ver. 6 of Micro$oft's Internet Explorer for Windows! Yes, I'm a geek!.. No, I'm not being pointlessly snotty!
Google quit supporting IE6 - that was not done casually! You're one of a great many legacy installations still in use. Among (many!) other flaws and shortcomings, IE6 does not render modern HTML constructs (like this one) correctly.
Consider downloading a modern, capable (& free!) browser like FoxFire or Opera.
Check the Browser Choice page European law requires Micro$oft make available. Germans are pretty sensible. Even the French can't be wrong *all* the time. 8^)

Welcome to the IAGenWeb Project's Poweshiek County website. This site operates under the aegis of the USGenWeb Project and the IAGenWeb Project.
Don Wherry is the IAGenWeb Project's Coordinator for Poweshiek County, your host at this site. Marilyn Holmes is Assistant Coordinator, in particular charge of Message Board traffic. IAGenWeb county coordinators are researchers like yourself. In addition to being the nuts-and-bolts maintainers of county sites, we are also a help resource, in the manner of reference librarians. The assistance we can offer is limited, as we are not resident in Poweshiek County itself. Still, if you need help, please ask! If you can help, please offer!
This site is in the midst of a thorough reorganization at this time. Comments, critiques, requests and suggestions from site users are always welcome. They are particularly relevant right now.
Mocavo
The Mocavo genealogy search engine has been publicly launched. It bills itself as "The Largest Free Genealogy & Family Tree Search Engine". It is not in any way related to or officially endorsed by the Iowa GenWeb Project or any element thereof, but... your County Coordinator has personally been very impressed with it.
It's hot, and it's free! Give it a try!

Adjacent Counties
Human nature being what it is, our ancestors probably knew about as many people about as well as we do today. Population density being much less then, folks they recognized by face or name extended for miles. Ranchers and cowpokes on the high plains weren't the only people who'd ride 40 miles of bad trail in worse weather to attend a box-lunch social or a dance. Your Poweshiek County ancestors almost certainly had business and social ties across one or more of the county lines.
Visit the IAGenWeb Project's site for any of the adjacent counties by clicking your mouse on the county's name in the table below, or anywhere in the county on the map.
