WEST DES MOINES COMMUNITY SCHOOLS

1893	Valley Junction Independent School District organized
1938	District reorganized/renamed to the West Des Moines Community School District
1962	West Des Moines district merged with Clive school district; added Clive and Crestview Elementaries
1965	Valley High School opened with only a ninth grade class and two 6th grade classes from Fairmeadows Elementary
1971	Valley High School became a 4-year high school; the old high school became a junior high and was renamed Hillside Junior High
1977	Crossroads Park Elementary opened; Indian Hills Jr. High opened, students & parents helped move equipment & supplies from Hillside Jr. High
1990	Westridge Elementary opened
1992	Jordan Creek Elementary opened
1995	The Learning Resource Center opened, and Walnut Creek Camput (alternative high school) opened in the previous district office; Walnut Creek later moved to a renovated church by the stadium on 8th St.
1997	Valley Southwoods Freshman High School opened to ease crowding at Valley High School
2002	Valley Stadium opened
2004	Hillside Elementary opened at the old stadium site
2012	Clegg Park Elementary renovated and opend as the new Walnut Creek Campus
