George Iltis Home Circa 1920

1104 44th Street, Des Moines, Iowa

George Iltis and his wife built this home at 1104 44th St. in 1914. These photos are believed to be circa 1920. Per a long-time neighborhood resident, Mrs. Iltis was a member of the Garden Club. There were extensive gardens behind the house, which included a gazebo and small pond. Unused divided back postcards. The Iltis family owned multiple lumber yards in the Des Moines area, including one in Beaverdale and one on the south side. The Beaverdale lumber yard burned down in the 1980's.
