Celebrate Golden Anniversary At Dinner In Havelock Last Sunday

Over 60 Guests Present to Bring Best Wishes to The Honored Couple, Mr. and Mrs. Sherman W. Clark celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, May 10, Mother's Day at a dinner givenin their honor at the Ridotto Ballroom. Sixty relatives were present for the occasion, which was planned by their daughters, Mrs. Paul Moor and Mrs. Lloyd Oleson. The bountiful dinner served by six girls was prepared by Mrs. Hannah Stein and Mrs. Minnie Rubel. Guests were seated attables decorated in white and gold and a three tiered wedding cake frosted in the same colors graced the table where the couple was seated.

Received Gifts

The afternoon was spent in visiting and the reading of letters, cards and telegrams from relatives unable to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Clark received gold wedding rings from the children besides many other gifts. Pictures were made of the couple and the group in attendance Sunday. One picture was taken of 7 people who were present for the wedding ceremony 50 years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Clark were married in Monticello, Ill., Jan. 29, 1892. Because of the weather and icy roads this winter the celebration of the event was postponed until last Sunday.

Came to Iowa

Immediately after their marriage they came to Iowa, living on a farm northeast of Laurens for many years.

Good Wishes

Mr. Clark has been successful as a farmer and at many other trades. His good wife has been a real helpmate to him in the years since their marriage. Their many friends and relatives extended wishes for many more happy anniversaries and hopes for their continued good health and success. Father of Laurens People; Was Prominent Business Man of Emmetsburg

Sherman Clark, 76, operator of the Emmetsburg Produce Co., for a number of years, passed away in a Rochester, Minn.hospital Wednesday morning after an illness of several months. Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon in the Congregational church at Emmetsburg, with Rev. George Ingle, pastor officiating. Burial was in the Laurens cemetery. Mr. Clark is survived by his wife and seven children, Mrs. Hazel Moor and William Clark of Laurens; Mrs. Mabel Oleson of Havelock; Mrs. Pearl Hunter of Blooming Prairie, Minn.; Mrs. Irene Stancliff of Chicago; Marvin of Mallard and Roy of Waterloo. There are also 17 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was very proud of his six grandsons in the service and liked to hear news from them. Those in the service are A. C. Darlowe Oleson, Merced, Calif.; the five Clark brothers, Belmont and Alvin somewhere in New Guinea; Merle somewhere at sea; Stanley in Hawaii and Robert at Burlingham, Wash.

Obituary

Sherman William Clark was born in Monticello, Il, on Nov. 23, 1867 to William and Mary Clark and passed away at Rochester, Minn., April 26, 1944 at the age of 76 years, 5 months and 7 days. January 29, 1892 he was united in marriage to Lena Bach of Monticello, Ill. On Feb. 25, 1892 he and his wife came to Iowato reside on a farm six miles west of Mallard. There they made their home until 1920, when they moved with their family toBlooming Prairie, Minn. They resided there five years and then moved to Emmetsburg. He was engaged in the produce business until last August, when his health began to fail him.

Mother of Laurens Residents Dies at Emmetsburg Friday

Mrs. Sherman Clark of Emmetsburg died at the Emmetsburg hospital Friday, Nov. 29, (1946) after being ill 10 days from afall which resulted in a fractured hip. Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 2, at the Martin Funeral Home in Emmetsburgwith the Rev. George Ingle, pastor of the Congregational church officiating. Burial was in the Laurens cemetery.

Caroline Bach Clark was born April 15, 1873, at Monticello, Ill., to Peter and Sophia Bach, and passed away at theEmmetsburg hospital Nov. 29 at the age of 73 years, seven months and 14 days. She was united in marriage Jan. 29, 1892, to Sherman W. Clark at Monticello., Ill., and to this union seven children wereborn. Feb. 25, 1892, she came with her husband to Iowa, and they lived on a farm six miles west of Mallard until 1920. Then they moved with their family to Blooming Prairie, Minn., to live until 1925 when they moved to Emmetsburg. Mrs. Clark is survived by her seven children: William of Laurens; Mrs. Mabel Oleson of Havelock; Roy of Traer; Mrs. HazelMoor of Laurens; Mrs. Pearl Hunter of Blooming Prairie, Minn.; Mrs. Irene Stancliff of Chicago, Ill.; and Marvin of Mallard. Also living are one sister, Mrs. Jake Coon of Laurens; 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Grew to Manhood on Farm Near Plover

Plover - Funeral services for George Strong were conducted at the Foy Funeral Home in Emmetsburg and at the grave in the Powhatan cemetery near Plover by the Rev. L. G. Gartner of Plover Methodist church Monday, December 23.

George Ira Strong was born August 22, 1882, the fourth child of Philander and Eve Strong. His mother passed away when he was eight months old. He grew to manhood on a farm near Plover, Iowa.

In 1906 he moved to Wassington, South Dakota, where he was united in marriage to Minnie Brachvogel. From Wessington he moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where he lived for many years.

In 1932 he moved to Emmetsurg where he passed away on teh 20th of December, 1946. His age was 64 years, four months and 26 days.

He is survived by six children: Ruby, Sallie, Leslie, Jean and Darlene, all of whom are living in Minneapolis, ? Fern, who is living at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He is also survived by two brothers, two half brothers, and three half sisters.
