Tribute to Plymouth County Native and Family Historian, Darrell R. Easton The “Computer Genies” genealogy society of NW Iowa has graciously “loaned” me, the Plymouth Co. IA GenWeb Coordinator, five big 3-ring binders which include a very large obituary collection. Darrell Easton clipped and saved Plymouth County-related obituaries for years. Darrell loved genealogy and family history. Darrell was instrumental in organizing the “Computer Genies” group in NW Iowa. After Darrell’s passing in September of 2005, his family gave the Obituary Collection to the Computer Genies. I am dedicated to posting as many of the obituaries as possible from Darrell’s collection. I am grateful for the loan of the binders. I have worked through much of the first three binders and am on the fourth at the present time. In order for this process to move more quickly, I have devised a template, which I am using to get the “meat content” of Darrell’s collection online at this Plymouth County OBIT board. Some of the obituaries on the website will be posted with the use of the template and an explanation below the obituary. The Computer Genies group and I have contacted the Sioux City Journal. The Journal has graciously stated that we can post these obituaries—they just ask that the Journal be cited as the “source.”
This is the explanation you will see posted to identify the obituaries from Darrell’s collection:
~Partial Obituary--documenting the pertinent details from the obituary content Many of these template obituaries are from the early 1990s through mid-year 2001. After mid-year 2001, the obituaries can be copy/pasted in their entirety from the Journal online archives. That is awesome. Thus you will see obituaries posted on the Plymouth OBITS board after mid-year 2001 without the use or need of the template. Darrell Easton and I (Linda Ziemann—Plymouth County Coordinator) were distant ALDERSON family cousins. I appreciated knowing Darrell. To know him was to enjoy his enthusiasm for family and family history! I post at the bottom of this page Darrell’s obituary as it was posted in the Sioux City Journal, Sept. 2005. I believe it is only fitting that his obituary is the last to be included in his collection. “Good-bye, Darrell, and thanks for leaving such a legacy of history for Plymouth County researchers!”
