1st Marriage: Bernard "Barney" Deiterman married Bernadine "Dinah" Schmiemann

Bernard "Barney" Deiterman was born October 10, 1847, in West Phalen, Germany. He suffered an injury to his hand in the Prussian War. He married Bernadine Schmiiemann, who died during childbirth. It is documented that he left Bremen, Germany on Ship Hammonia at age 23. He came with his brother, Franz. Found in "Germans to America."

2nd Marriage: Barney Deiterman married Mary Kettmann

Barney married Mary Kettmann February 17, 1885, at Holy Angels Church, Roselle, Iowa. They had seven children. They farmed in Caroll County, Iowa, and then moved to a farm north of Remsen. They became members of St. Mary's Parish, Remsen, Iowa.
