The following article appeared in the LeMars Sentinel following the marriage (1909-Sep 28) of Joseph I. Meis and Katherine Roerig:

"A large gathering of friends and relatives witnessed the marriage of Miss Katherine Roerig and Mr. Joseph I. Meis at St. Joseph's Church in LeMars at 9:00 on Tuesday morning.  The Rev. Father F.K. Feurstein performed the ceremony.

The bride was most daintly dressed in a gown of white Persian lawn trimmed with Brussels lace.  Her blushing face was half hidden by the folds of the gausy veil which was held in place by a few fair white rose buds.  She also carried a bouquet of brides' roses.  The bride was accompanied by her sister, Miss Mary Roerig, who was also attired in white and carried a bouquet of pink roses.

The groom was accompanied by his brother, Herman, who acted in the capacity of the best man.

Immediately after the friends and relatives had showered upon the happy couple their many and since congratulations, the happy company took to the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. Roerig, living on Franklin Street where a delicious breakfast was served."

1995

Here is a report I wrote about my (mis)adventures of my first Meis Family Reunion in LeMars,IA, in 1995. [Link to Anthony's family reunion report.]

I had flown in with my Grandmother and her twin sister to see for my first time the family homestead and family members that I had never known before.
