Obituary

HORACE ALBERT DAW

Horace Albert Daw, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Daw, was born at Seven Oaks, Kent County, England, on August 10, 1871. [Correction: Horace was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Ambrose Daw.]

He came with his parents and three sisters, Harriet, Sarah and Edith, to America in 1876. Landed near Sheldon, Iowa.  Their mother died six months later and the children were adopted into different families. In 1890, he went to Centerville, South Dakota, to live with his sister, Mrs. H. C. Keck.  In 1891, he moved to Welcome, Minnesota, where he and a Mr. Ripple owned a livery barn.  After selling this he worked on several farms in Martin County.  Later he purchased a farm at Alexandria, Minnesota, which he lost.  He then went to Emmons, Minnesota in 1895, where he resided till death.  He worked on the H. H. Emmons and A. Petersen farms.

In 1941, he went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Hauge, where he assisted them in their store. He spent many hours at the Lee and Peters barber shop.

On January 2, he was taken ill and rushed to the Naeve hospital at Albert Lea, where he passed away February 4, at 4:30 p.m.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. H. C. Keck, Fairmont, Minnesota; Mrs. Sarah Cheatham, Spokane, Washington; Mrs. John Teeslink, Platte, South Dakota; and a nephew, Harry Teeslink, Wessington Springs, South Dakota, killed in a trailer accident September 4, 1958.

He is survived by the following nieces and nephews:  Mrs. J. E. Metz and Mrs. Clarice Mathwig, Fairmont, Minnesota; Mrs. Al Wilbrecht, Hayward, Calif.; Mrs. Gladfelter, Spokane, Wash.; Lucy Bumbaugh, Platte, S. Dak.; C. W. Keck, Fairmont, Minn.; Walter L. Keck, Trimont, Minn.; Roy M. Keck, Denver, Colorado; Lloyd Keck, Sherburn, Minn.; Earl B. Keck, San Diego, Calif.; Ralph Cheatham, Coulee Dam, Washington; Albert Teeslink, Wessington Springs, South Dakota; Charles Teeslink, Lebanon, Missouri; Wm. Teeslink, Fremont, Nebr.; James Teeslink, Lead, South Dakota; and a host of friends.

Mr. Daw was a member of the Methodist church at Fairmont, Minn.

Funeral services were held February 8, at 11 o’clock at the Bonnerup Funeral Chapel at Albert Lea, with the Rev. Paul Neal officiating, and graveside services at Fairmont, Minnesota, at Lakeside cemetery, the Rev. Paul Wilkinson of the Methodist church in charge.

Pallbearers were:  Mr. James Hauge, Mr. Gordon Lee, Mr. Fred Peterson, Mr. Glenn Emmons, Mr. Halvor Wasmoen, Mr. Gunlek Wasmoen, all of Emmons.
