Black, E.C. - E.C. Black, son of J.L. Black died at Pierce, Neb last Saturday, after a two week's illness with typhoid fever. The remains arrived, Tuesday night and the funeral services will occur to-day, at North Page. VILLISCA REVIEW, Villisca, Iowa, Oct 22, 1896

 

Brannan, Irma Bornand - A memorial service for Irma Brannan, age 86, formerly of Villisca, was held on Thursday, September 18, 2008, at 11:30 am at the Villisca Community Center. Irma died on September 13, 2008 [Omaha, Douglas County, Nebr].

Irma was born [12 Sep 1922] in St Boniface, Manitoba, Canada and grew up in Santa Barbara, Ca. She was a homemaker and worked in the Villisca School system for many years.

She was preceded in death by husband, Robert; parents, Paul and Helene Bornand; 3 brothers, 1 sister (CA), and 1 granddaughter. Survived by children, Maurice, Bob, Jim, and Helen; sister, Martha Hooker (CA); sister-in-law, Mildred Kunze (CO); 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Brannan, John C. - Funeral services for Dr John C. Brannan, were held Tuesday June 17, 1986, at Wolfe Funeral Home with the Reverend Al Hutchings officiating. Organist was Frances Gray. Pall bearers were Leonard Kelley, Helmar Asklof, Clark Means, Harold Hart, Glenn Brownlee, and Neal Gray. Burial was in the North Page Cemetery near Villisca.

Dr John C. Brannan, of 1280 Drexel St. in Boulder, Co., died Wednesday, June 11, at his home at the age of 76.

He was born May 7, 1910, in Montgomery County, Iowa, the son of John F. Brannan and Viola D. Bunker Brannan.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 as a lieutenant commander.

He moved from San Diego, Ca., to Boulder in 1962.

He was an optometrist, receiving his medical degree from North Illinois College of Optometry in 1952.

He was a member of the Loveland Elks Lodge #1051, Boulder American Legion Post #10, American Optometric Association, the Loveland Masonic Lodge #53 AF&AM, the Consistory of Denver and El Nebel Shrine of Denver.

He is survived by one brother, Robert Brannan, of Omaha, Ne, one sister, Mildred Kunze of Boulder; nephews and one niece.

Brannan, John Franklin - Funeral services for John F. Brannan were held Sunday, July 5, 1964 at 2:00 pm, from the Wolfe Funeral home with the Rev George S. Snyder officiating. The organist, Miss Helen Bunker accompanied the soloist Mrs Frances Gray in the following selections, "Beyond the Sunset," and "Near the Cross." Flowerbearers were Mrs Donald Fisher and Mrs Paul Williams.

Casketbearers included Fred Erickson, Wallace Williams, Waldo Penton, Paul Williams, Ed Minge and Glen Brownlee.

Interment was in North Page Cemetery.

John Franklin Brannan, son of William A. and Emma Palmer Brannan, was born April 21, 1880, in Valley Township, Page County, Iowa, and passed away at the home of his daughter in Boulder, Colorado, on June 30, 1964, at the age of 84 years. Mr Brannan had been in failing health for about one year, but passed away suddenly just a few days after going to Boulder.

He lived practically all of his life in the same community where he was born and educated. On September 21, 1909, he was united in marriage to Viola Bunker of Clarinda, Iowa. Mrs Brannan preceded him in death on June 13, 1961. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers.

Mr Brannan is survived by one daughter, Mildred Kunze, Boulder, Colorado; two sons, John Clark Brannan, Boulder, Colorado, and Robert C. Brannan, Villisca; one sister, Mrs Apurilla Reid, Boulder, Colorado; and four grandchildren.

Out of town relatives who came to attend the funeral of John F. Brannan included his daughter and husband Mr and Mrs Forrest Kunze and son John Clark Brannan, all of Boulder, Colorado; Maurice Brannan of Laramie, Wyoming; Mrs Floyd Mullen of Ames; Mrs Effie Hankins and Mr and Mrs Merle Parsons of New Market. Brannan, Robert C. - Graveside services for Robert C. Brannan were held March 30, 1994, at North West Page Cemetery. Robert died March 27, 1994, from Wegener's Granulomatosis in Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

Robert, the son of John and Viola Brannan, was born December 5, 1918, on the family farm near Villisca. They farmed southwest of Villisca. He joined the Marine Corps Dec 21, 1939, and served in the Pacific for six years. He married Irma Bornand of Santa Barbara, Ca, in October of 1942. After the war they returned to the family farm and settled down to the tasks of raising a family and farming with his father. Robert retired from farming in March of 1984, and moved to Omaha.

Robert was a member of Millard VFW Post 8334 and Millard American Legion Post 374.

Survivors include his wife; sons and daughters-in-law, Maurice and Judith, Bob and Nancy, Jim and Cheryl; daughter, Helen Miller; sister, Mildred Kunze; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren. VILLISCA REVIEW, Villisca, Iowa, Apr 7, 1994

 

Brannan, Viola Bell Bunker - Funeral services for Mrs John Brannan, 74, were held on Friday, June 16, 1961, at 2:00 pm, from the Wolfe Funeral Home, with the Rev Paul C. Ellis officiating.

Casketbearers included Waldo Penton, Ed Minge, Paul Williams, Wallace Williams, Morris Wendling and Glen Brownlee. Flowerbearers were Mrs Elzene Penton and Mrs Wilma Filsher. The soloist, Mrs Margaret Hull, was accompanied by Miss Helen Bunker, in the following selections "Beautiful Ile of Somewhere," and "The Old Rugged Cross." Concluding service and interment was in the North Page Cemetery.

Viola D. Brannan, daughter of John and Lida Bolt Bunker, was born May 11, 1887, in Villisca, Iowa; and passed away in the Clarinda Municipal Hospital on June 13, 1961.

She was a life-time resident of the Villisca community.

On Sept 21, 1909, she was united in marriage to John F. Brannan. To them were born three children: John C. Brannan of San Diego, Calif; Mildred B. Kunze of Boulder, Colo; and Robert C. Brannan, of Villisca, Iowa.

She is survived by her husband, her three children; by one sister, Effie Hankins of New Market; and by four grandchildren.

Brownlee, Adah Grace - Miss Grace Brownlee died at the home of her mother, Mrs L.J. Brownlee, on West Third street Wednesday morning at four o'clock after an illness of several years. She had been an invalid for two years and death came as an end to her suffering.

Adah Grace, daughter of Mr and Mrs A.L. Brownlee, was born on October 1, 1875, near Vinton, Benton county, Iowa, and was thirty-nine years, nine months and thirteen days of age at the time of death. She lived in Benton county until she was seven years of age, moving to Page county with her parents in 1882. She resided in Page county until 1907 when she and her mother moved to Villisca.

Miss Brownlee united with the Presbyterian church while young at North Page and transferred her membership to the Presbyterian church here on moving to Villisca. Although her sickness extended over a period of two years, she was very patient and never complained during all her afflictions. She was of a retiring disposition, loving and kind, and ever thoughtful of her mother.

Besides her mother she is survived by two brothers and two sisters. They are: J.W. Brownlee of Denver, J.F. Brownlee of Villisca and Mrs Ella Winter and Mrs Edyth Wood of Villisca. Other relatives and a great many friends survive to mourn their loss.

The funeral services were held from the home yesterday afternoon at 1:30, conducted by Rev W.J. Ewing, pastor of the Villisca Presbyterian church. Interment was in the North Grove [sic, North Page] cemetery. A.V. Brownlee of near Shannon City, Iowa, came Wednesday evening and J.W. Brownlee of Denver came Thursday morning to attend the services. Brownlee, Lena A. - Mr Lena A. Borwnlee, son of Mr and Mrs A.S. Brownlee, went to Kansas, last Spring and took up a claim a short distance from Benkelman. About three weeks since, he took the typhoid fever and died Sept 28. When first taken he was confined to his bed four days before any person came in to see him. His body was sent home to his father's house where the funeral occurred last Friday. He was born Sept 26, 1860. Brownlee, Lucille - Funeral services for Lucille Brownlee were held April 1, 2000, at the First Presbyterian Church, Villisca, Ia, with the Rev Sandra Wainwright officiating. Burial was in the North Page Cemetery, rural Clarinda, Ia.

Mary Lucille Brownlee was born Jan 3, 1912, in a log cabin in Greene County, Tn, to Benjamin Harrison Miller and Luna Oleva (Sutherland) Miller. She died Mar 28, 2000, at Integrated Health Services, Clarinda, Ia.

She attended Olive Branch elementary school as a child and Clarinda High School. She married Glenn Naze Brownlee three days before the Great Depression. She was a farm wife and later worked as a cook at the Clarinda Mental Health Institute until her retirement. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Villisca.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Patrici Ann Brownlee Dickmeyer and brother Carl Miller.

She is survived by children Lois Brownlee of Denver, Co; Mrs Doris Driftmier and husband Darrel Driftmier of Clarinda, Ia; Stan Brownlee and wife Becky of Villisca, Ia; son-in-law Don Dickmeyer of Omaha, Ne; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Also sister Thelma Elizabeth Manning and husband Ray of Roanoke, Va; sister-in-law Dorothy Malmberg of Red Oak, Ia; and many nieces and nephews.

Cameron, James Garfield "Jack" - James Garfield Cameron, son of James A. and Lizzie Cameron was born in Mahaska county, Iowa, August 21, 1886, and departed this life May 3, 1934, at his home five miles north of New Market Iowa--aged 47 years, 8 months, and 12 days.

On March 12, 1923, he was married to Dortha Whitney. To this union, four children were born--Lucile Irene, Wilson James, Gerald Alva, and Ellen Marie, who with his wife survive him.

He also leaves an aged mother in Marysville, Washington; and three sisters--Mrs Kate Wilson, Altoona, Iowa, Mrs Henrietta Patterson, Des Moines, Iowa; Margaret Newman, Los Angeles, Calif; four brothers, D.D. of Zillak, Washington, C.V., Zearing, Iowa; O.B. and A.M. of Marysville, Washington.

He was a kind and devoted husband and father, and his passing is sincerely mourned by his family and friends.

The funeral service was held at the Walker Funeral Home, Saturday, May 5, at 2 pm with B.F. Hall in charge.

The music of the service was furnished by Mrs Carver, Mr and Mrs Hall.

Pallbearers--Dale Combs, Floyd Maley, Arthur Clabaugh, Newt Jones, Frank Webb.

Carney, Ava Tompkins - Ava Blanche Carney died Friday, Oct 31, 1980 at her home in Shenandoah following a heart attack. She was 94 years of age.

Born November 14, 1985 [sic, 1885] on a farm near Page Center, Iowa, the daughter of James and Charlotte Meyer Tompkins, she grew up in that community where she attended rural school. She continued her education at the Clarinda High School and later attained her license as a Practical Nurse. For a number of years she was employed as a nurse at the Clarinda Mental Health Institute.

Following her marriage to Harry Carney, they lived in the west. Following his death, she returned to Shenandoah where she lived the remainder of her life.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs Ora Griffith of San Mateo, Calif, and Mrs Ruth Robinson of San Diego, Calif.

Among local relatives are two sisters-in-law, Mrs Roy (Hope) Tompkins of College Springs and Mrs Charles (Mabel) Tompkins, of Shenandoah; a nephew and his wife Kennard and Gretchen Tompkins of Farragut.

Graveside services and interment were held at 2 pm Monday, Nov 3, 1980 at the Clarinda Cemetery, with Rev Edythe Stirlen officiating.

Davis, Alfred D. - Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in Red Oak for Alfred David Davis, 64, of Red Oak who died suddenly Saturday [Dec 23] evening at his home there. He was formerly a resident of the North Page vicinity southwest of Villisca where he was born.

Mr Davis had been in poor health several years. When Mrs Davis, who had stepped outside the Davis home Saturday evening, tried to enter the kitchen door she found i obstructed, and upon forcing it open she discovered her husband's lifeless body against it where he had fallen while she was outside.

Mr Davis had been a resident of Red Oak many years where he was engaged in the livestock buying business. His wife was formerly Miss Jennie Schantz, daughter of C.J. Schantz of the North Page community. He leaves, besides his wife, three children. VILLISCA REVIEW, Villisca, Iowa, Dec 28, 1939

 

Funeral services for Alfred Davis, 64, who died Saturday evening of a heart attack, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Perryman chapel. Burial was made in the North Page cemetery.

Mr Davis had been in ill health for a year. His death came at the home, 609-A Third street.

A native of Page county, where he was born August 30, 1875, to Samuel and Katherine Davis, he lived in the adjoining county until his marriage March 16, 1910, at Villisca to Jennie Schantz. After the marriage, the Davis' lived on a farm near Stanton until 1920. In addition to farming, Mr Davis was a cattle buyer.

Survivors are his widow, three children, Glenn Davis, John Francis Davis and Mrs William Murphy, four grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs James Johnston of Torrington, Wyo, and Mrs Addie Beggs of Milwaukee, Wis.

The Rev Orval E. Walker was in charge of the services. Pallbearers were nephews, Lyle and Warren Renander, Donald, Lowell, Glenn, Fred, LaVonn and Gerald Schantz.

Davis, Jennie V. Schantz - Funeral services for Mrs Jennie V. Davis, 84, 704 Prospect st., were held this afternoon at the First Christian church with the Rev Herbert Lewellen officiating and burial in North Page cemetery in Page county. Arrangements were in charge of Sellergren Funeral home.

A lifetime resident of this area, Mrs Davis, died Saturday, Oct 7, at Murphy Memorial hospital after a lengthy illness.

The daughter of Mr and Mrs C.J. Schantz, she was born Sept 12, 1883, in Page county and was married to Alfred Davis, who died in 1938.

Mrs Davis was a member of the First Christian church and is survived by two sons, Glen A. of Philadelphia and John F. of Lemon Grove, Calif; a daughter, Mrs William A. Murphy, Red Oak; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brother, Theodore Schantz, Villisca; sister, Mrs Harry Fitton, Billings, Mont. RED OAK EXPRESS, Red Oak, Iowa, Oct 9, 1967

 

Dirrim, Guy DeLoss - Funeral services for Guy D. Dirrim were held on Wednesday, May 3, 1961 at 2:00 pm at the Methodist Church in Villisca, with the Rev Paul C. Ellis officiating.

Pallbearers included Vernon Vanderholm, Ned Osborn, Garland Lewis, Harold Gasson, Leslie Cronwall and Arlin Wallenhaupt. Flowerbearers were Elin Gasson, Ruby Lewis, Blanche Osborn and Ione Vanderholm. Music was by Mrs Margaret Hull accompanied by Mrs Frances Wheeler. Concluding service and interment was in North Page Cemetery, with Sutphen Funeral Home in charge.

Guy DeLoss Dirrim was born January 29, 1883, near Red Oak, Iowa and passed away in Corning, Iowa on April 30, 1961.

When he was an infant, the family moved by the Cramer Chapel neighborhood southwest of Villisca. Guy attended the local schools, and graduated from Villisca High School. Then he attended Iowa State College at Ames.

On June 11, 1913, he was united in marriage to Mabel Gasson. They made their home on a farm southwest of Villisca until 1921, when they moved to Villisca, where they have made their home since that time.

He was very active in community affairs. He served on the town council for many years. He was for 14 years a member of the Board of Directors of the Villisca Municipal Power Plant, and was for a number of years chairman of the Board. He was a member of the Building Committee when the present Methodist Church was erected.

He is survived by his wife; by one brother, Ray Dirrim of Miami, Fla and by many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. VILLISCA REVIEW, Villisca, Iowa, May 11, 1961

 

Eden, Augusta - Sorrow comes to the many friends of Charles Eden who has just realized that death has claimed and taken from that home a dear mother and wife, and left to mourn their loss a husband, two sons and two daughters. The deceased was born in Sweden and has been in this locality nearly 28 years. She was a faithful member of the United Presbyterian congregation and was ready for the call to come up higher. Farmer, Laurence Robert - Funeral service were held for Laurence R. Farmer Wednesday October 28, 1970 from the Sutphen Funeral Home at 10:00 am. Pastor Dennis Neal officiated.

Interment and concluding services were at the North Page Cemetery with Sutphen Funeral Home in charge.

Obituary - Larry Robert Farmer was born in Atlanta, Mo, to John W. and Pearl Farmer and departed this life October 24, 1970 at 2:45 pm at Clarinda, Iowa.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Jane Kissack Farmer of Villisca, and many friends in Southwest Iowa.

Larry and Jane were married in Nebraska on April 5, 1942. Together they worked in the Memorial Engraving business. Larry was gifted with the ability to do the work on granite and marble which he learned as a boy of 10. He loved his work and sought to improve his art work to the point of perfection. His professional ability was well recognized in Southwest Iowa. His sculptor and engraving can be found in many cities and towns in Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa.

Larry and Jane came to Sioux City, Iowa, in 1945 from Missouri. They later moved to Clarinda, Iowa, for a period of 8 months. On December 7, 1947, they moved to Villisca where they opened their own business. Together they have served this community well and his work is seen and appreciated at various places and in cemeteries in this area.

Feese, Willis Emery - Willis Emery Feese son of Frank and Sarah Jane Tucker Feese, was born June 21, 1874, near Burlington, Ia. At the age of three years he moved with his family to this section of Iowa, locating on a farm 6 miles southwest of Villisca. Mr Feese resided in the vicinity of Nodaway 34 years, except for the three years he worked on the railroad out of St. Joseph, Mo.

He was married to Agnes Gibbons, Nov 19, 1903, and to this union three children were born, all of whom survive. They are Mary Moore of Norfolk W. Va, Francis Feese of Whiting, Ia, and Dorothy Steinline of Perrysburg, O.

Mr Feese and Myrtle C. Evans of Gravity were married at Tabor, Iowa, Nov 8, 1917, and there are no children by this marriage. Surviving also are a step-daughter, Mrs Clark Fengel of Chicago, eight grandchildren, and two brothers and two sisters, Walter Feese of LaJunta, Colo, Clifford Feese of Clarinda, Mrs Nellie Conner of McPherson, Kans., and Mrs Mae Frye of Long Beach, Calif.

Mr Feese had for the last 20 years been a member of the Mt Zion Presbyterian church which he joined during the pastorate of the Rev Silas R. Overholser, now of Earlham, Ia.

Fisher, Donald Houston - Funeral services were held Saturday, May 24, 1986, at the United Methodist Church, Villisca, Ia, for Donald Houston Fisher, with the Reverend Sandy Wainwright officiating.

Casket bearers were Jerry Fisher, Darren Fisher, Mark Shirley, Donald Clark, Duane Bowman and Rollie Brownlee.

Flower bearers were Mr and Mrs Robert Brannan and Mr and Mrs Wallace Williams. Music was by Jim Dunbar, soloist and Mrs Neal Gray, organist. Mrs Richard Bruning and Mrs Robert Wilson were at the Register. Ushers were Leonard Posten and Roger Poston.

Interment was in the North Page Cemetery, Page County, Iowa.

Donald Houston Fisher the son of Fred and Mabel Houston Fisher was born June 9, 1912, in Page County, Ia, and died at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Ia, after a lengthy illness on May 20, 1986, at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 11 days.

He was baptized as an infant at the United Presbyterian Church in Hepburn, Ia, and transferred his membership to the Villisca Methodist Church in 1943.

He was married to Wylma Everene Higgins on August 16, 1933, at Yankton, So Da. He spent his entire life farming in Page and Montgomery Counties in Iowa with the exception of two years in Adams County, Iowa.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Wylma; two daughters and two sons: Gale Fisher and wife Ann, and Guila Murren and husband Larry, Villisca; Linda Conner and husband Warren, Omaha, Ne; Steve Fisher and wife Mary, Red Oak, Ia. Also nine grandchildren: Jerry Fisher and wife Carolyn; Kim Shirley and husband Mark; Vonda, Darrin, Angie and Daniel Fisher; Donald Clark; Mindy and Devon Conner and five step grandchildren. There were four great-grandchildren: Heather and Holly Fisher and Aaron and Jamie Shirley and two step great-grandchildren. There is one brother, Vernon Fisher of Shenandoah, Ia, and three sisters; Ruth Brownlee and Eva Moyer, Loveland, Co., and Mary Bowman of Shenandoah, Ia, many nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed farming and loved riding horses until his health failed.

Fisher, Fen W. - Fen W. Fisher, son of George H. and Alice M. Moore Fisher was born December 19, 1891 in Page County, Iowa and entered into eternal rest June 18, 1980 at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center at the age of 88 years.

He lived most of his life in and around the Villisca area and was a life time member of the Villisca United Presbyterian Church and held several offices in the church. Fen served his country on the Mexican border, W.W. I, with the 42nd Rainbow Division in France and was a charter member and past Commander of the American Legion Post in Villisca. He also served in the National Guard for 19 years reaching the rank of Captain. Fen was a member of the school board for several years.

On October 8, 1919 he was united in marriage to Hazel M. Winter and to this union four children were born: Thomas P., Omaha, Ne; Frank E., Soquel, Ca; Marjorie A. Coon, Albuquerque, NM; and William A., Longmont, Co.

He was preceded in death by his wife Hazel, parents, brothers Earl and Walter, and a sister Hattie Wilson. He is survived b his four children, six grandchildren, and a brother Paul Fisher of Villisca, Iowa.

Services were held Saturday, June 21, 1980 at the United Presbyterian Church in Villisca with the Reverend Elliott Bodwell officiating. Flowerbearers were Dorothy Kehr, Mrs Richard Wright, Mrs Ed Day. Music was provided by Mrs Quincy Dunn. Musical selections were "Just A Closer Walk With Thee: and "Abide With Me".

In charge of the memory book were Mrs Ed Bauer and Mrs Ethel Winter. Ushers were Ed Bauer and Marlin Gunderman.

Casketbearers were John Frazee, Ed Day, Richard Wright, Leonard Kelley, Ralph McKee and George Scott.

Fisher, Frank Lafayette - Frank L. Fisher, 81, for more than sixty years a resident of Villisca and the North Page vicinity southwest of here, died Sunday morning, just after midnight, at his home in the southwest part of Villisca, his death resulting from a stroke of paralysis which he suffered while eating supper Saturday evening. Up to that time he had apparently been in his usual health and drove his car up town two or three times that day.

Frank Lafayette Fisher, son of Jacob and Margaret Fisher, was born July 25, 1860, in Henry County, Ohio. He spent his early life in Ohio, and as he was a member of a large family he conceived the idea of going west, and in January, 1880, he and his brother George came to Page county and found employment at the James Pollock home in the North Page vicinity. While in this home Frank identified himself with the United Presbyterian church of North Page.

On March 13, 1883, he was married to Luella Newsam and they established their home on a farm. To this union were born three children, Fred L., Glenna Williams and Lela Helberg, all of Villisca.

Mr Fisher took an active part in the affairs of his community and especially in the North Page church where he was an elder of the church and also superintendent of the Sunday school. He was treasurer and business manager of the North Page Cemetery association. His wife died Nov 30, 1918, but he continued to reside on his farm at North Page. Upon the dissolution of the church there he transferred his membership to the United Presbyterian church in Hepburn where he again responded to the call for service and was elected as an elder of the church and superintendent of the Sunday school, which offices he held until the time of his death.

He was sent three times by the College Springs Presbytery to the general assembly of the United Presbyterian church at Green Castle, Pa., Washington, D.C., and Cleveland, Ohio.

On Dec 15, 1920, he was married to Mrs Rose Russell and they lived on the Fisher farm until January, 1931, when they came to Villisca to reside in the home where he died. He leaves, besides his wife and children, eight grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren, one sister, Mrs Ellen Harmon of McClure, O., two brothers, Harry of Colbrook, O., and Melvin of Napoleon, O. Five sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

The body was taken to the Pitman funeral home where it remained until 10 am Tuesday when it was returned to the Fisher home where a short service was held at 1 pm and the funeral held at 2 pm at the United Presbyterian church in Hepburn, conducted by the Rev John Eastwood, pastor of the United Presbyterian church at Minden, Neb., assisted by the Rev Samuel Morrow, pastor of the United Presbyterian church of Coin. The singing was by Mrs Maude Scott, and the pallbearers were Earl, Walter, Fen and Paul Fisher, Fred Graham and Roy McCorkle, with Mrs Fred Graham and Mrs Roy McCorckle in charge of the flowers. Interment was in the North Page cemetery.

Fisher, Fred L. - Funeral services for Fred L. Fisher were held on Friday, November 20, 1964 at 2:00 pm, from the Sutphen Funeral Home with the Rev George S. Snyder officiating.

Pallbearers included Roland Brownlee, Lyle Brownlee, Duane Bowman, Stephen Fisher, Gale Fisher and Jim Brownlee. Flowerbeaarers were Mrs Theo Schantz, and Mrs Paul Stafford. The music was by Mrs Carolyn Harris accompanied by Mrs Mabel Dunn in the following selections. "In The Garden," and "Beyond the Sunset." Concluding service and interment was in North Page Cemetery.

Fred L. Fisher, son of Frank L. and LuRila Newsam Fisher, was born on April 13, 1885, in the North Page District, seven and one half miles southwest of Villisca, Iowa, and passed away at the Murphy Memorial hospital in Red Oak, following an illness of two weeks, on Monday, November 16, 1964, at the age of 79 years, 7 months, and 3 days.

On August 1, 1906, he was united in marriage to Mabel C. Houston of Clarinda, Iowa. To this union two sons and three daughters were born. They lived in the same community of his birth where they farmed for fifty years. In 1954, they moved to their home in Villisca.

In early life Mr Fisher joined the United Presbyterian church of North Page, later transferring to the Hepburn United Presbyterian church. When that congregation was disbanded he joined the Villisca Methodist church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Glenna Williams and his wife Mabel. He is survived by his children, Vernone E. Fisher of Shenandoah, Iowa, Ruth M. Brownlee of Loveland, Colorado, Donald H. Fisher of Villisca, Eva L. Moyer of Loveland, Colorado, and Mary R. Fred L. Fisher, 79, a life-time resident of Page County, died Monday night at the Red Oak hospital after a two-week illness. The funeral service will be Friday at 2 pm at the Sutphen funeral home at Villisca with burial at North Page cemetery. The Rev George Snyder of the Villisca Methodist church will officiate.

Mr Fisher's wife, Mable, was a newswriter for the Herald Journal until her death in 1960. The couple farmed for many years near Villisca, and had made their home at Villisca after retirement.

Survivors are five children, Vernon E. of Shenandoah, Mrs H. James (Ruth) Brownlee and Mrs Eva Moyer of Loveland, Colo, Donald H. of Villisca, and Mrs Kenneth (Mary) Bowman of Malvern. Fisher, George H. - George H. Fisher, son of Jacob and Margaret Fisher, was born at Bucyrus, Crawford county, Ohio, Oct 30, 1856. He came to Iowa at the age of 21, locating in the North Page vicinity.

On June 15, 1882, he was united in marriage to Alice Moore, and to this union five children were born--one daughter and four sons. In 1912 he moved to Florida and then in 1924 to Connecticut.

Mr Fisher joined the United Presbyterian church at North Page and later the First Presbyterian church in Villisca.

He is survived by the daughter, Mrs K.J. Wilson of Marshalltown, Iowa, and four sons, Walter of the Lyman vicinity, Earl, Fen and Paul of Villisca. There are also three brothers, Frank Fisher of Villisca, Melvin Fisher of McClure, O., Harry Fisher of Jackson, O., and one sister, Mrs Ellen Harmon of McClure, O. There are nine grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.

Fisher, Hazel Marie Winter - Hazel Marie Fisher was born on October 4, 1895 in Montgomery County, Iowa on a farm near Villisca. She was the only daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Winter.

She was united in marriage to Fen Fisher of Villisca, on October 8, 1918. To this union four children were born: Thomas Paul, Frank Edwin, Marjorie Alice and William Allen.

She was preceeded in death by her parents and a brother Marvin Winter.

She is survived by her husband, Fen Fisher and their four children--Thomas Paul of Omaha, Nebraska; Frank Edwin of Santa Cruz, California; Marjorie Alice Coon of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and William Allen of Boulder, Colorado. Six grandchildren; two brothers--F. Harold Winter and J. Russell Winter, both of Villisca and many other relatives and friends.

Hazel lived all her life in the vicinity of Villisca. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Villisca, and a member of the W.W. I Auxiliary.

Hazel was a devoted wife and mother whose life was centered around her children and home. She will be greatly missed by them and those who knew her and loved her.

Hazel passed away on Monday, April 28, about 1:00 pm suddenly and peacefully at her home.

Services were held Wednesday, April 30th at the United Presbyterian Church with the Rev Nadim Saikaly officiating.

Casketbearers were Ed Day, Herman Christie, Richard Wright, Collis Moore, Marlin Gunderman, and Ralph McKee. Flowerbearers were Mrs Richard Wright, Mrs Ed Day and Miss Dorothy Kehr.

Heather Marie, daughter of Jerry and Carolyn (Smith) Fisher, was born July 11, 1983 in Clarinda and died early Wednesday morning, Nov 11, 1987, as the result of an automobile accident southwest of Villisca.

Fisher, Mabel C. Houston - Funeral services for Mabel C. Fisher were held on Tuesday, Jan 12, 1960 at 2:00 pm at the Methodist Church with the Rev Paul C. Ellis officiating. Pallbearers were Theo Schantz, Glen Brownlee, Paul Stafford, Ed Minge, Floyd Davis and A.W. McIntosh and flowerbearers were Mrs Paul Stafford and Mrs Theo Schantz. Mabel C. Fisher, daughter of Charles and Eva Whitmarsh Houston, was born June 12, 1887, on a farm near Clarinda, in Page County, Iowa and entered into rest Jan 9, 1960, at a Clarinda hospital after a lengthy illness. She was 72 years, 6 months and 28 days of age.

She received her education at Jackson School near Clarinda.

She was married on August 1, 1906, to Fred L. Fisher of Villisca, Iowa. To this union were born five children: Vernon E. Fisher of Shenandoah, Iowa; Mrs H. James (Ruth) Brownlee of Loveland, Colo; Donald H. Fisher of Villisca, Iowa; Mrs Stanley C. (Eva) Moyer of Loveland, Colo and Mrs Kenneth W. (Mary) Bowman of Red Oak, Iowa.

She joined the Presbyterian Church of Clarinda at the age of 8. After her marriage her membership was transferred to the United Presbyterian Church at Hepburn. She was active in church functions, being president of the Missionary Society for many years, singing in the choir and helping in the Sunday School.

In 1943 she and her husband transferred their membership to the Methodist Church of Villisca. There she continued her active leadership in the church. She acted as chairman of the WSCS Circle and was a member of the Willing Workers' Sunday School Class and the Kensington.

She and her husband resided on a farm in the North Page vicinity for nearly 50 years. In 1954 they came to Villisca where they have since made their home. They celebrated their Golden Wedding in 1956.

Mrs Fisher was correspondent for the Clarinda paper for about 48 years.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband; her five children and their spouses; one brother, Roy Houston of Clarinda; twelve grandchildren, Rolan Brownlee of Ft Collins, Colo, Fred Brownlee of Saratoga, Wyo; Lyle Brownlee of the University of Wyoming; Jim Brownlee of Loveland, Deleva Ann and Cathy Moyer, Loveland; Gale Fisher of Red Oak; Guila, Stephen and Linda Fisher of Villisca and Duane and Debra Bowman of Red Oak. There are also three great grandchildren, Todd, Bryan and Shanda Brownlee of Ft Collins, Colo. There are also four nieces and one nephew and many friends.

Fisher, Stella Fern McCully - Stella Fern Fisher, daughter of Samuel and Anna Cooper McCully was born in Montgomery County, Iowa, October 12, 1888 and entered into eternal rest on June 19, 1981, at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center at the age of 92 years, 8 months, and 7 days. She spent her girlhood in the Mortons Mill community and later came to Villisca to work in the telephone office.

She was united in marriage to Walter Fisher on July 22, 1909. To this union one daughter was born, Anneva of Villisca, Ia.

Walter and Stella celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary on July 26, 1969. She became a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Villisca in 1910, and has been a true and faithful member.

She lived on a farm in the Villisca community all of her married life, with the exception of sixteen years in the Lyman community. In 1950, she moved with her husband to Villisca where she lived until April 1, 1974. She has been cared for in a nursing home for the past seven and half years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters and is survived by her daughter Mrs Lee (Anneva) Means and a grandson Ron Means of Phoenix, Az; two sisters Birdean Conine of Dillon, Mt., and Doris Powers of Joliet, Mt., and a niece and nephew.

Services were held Monday, June 22, 1981, at the Sutphen Funeral Home, Villisca, Ia., with the Reverend Clair Kerns officiating.

Mrs Chris Nelson served as soloist and was accompanied by Mrs Quincy Dunn. Selections of "Sunrise Tomorrow" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" were played. Mrs Glen Sierp was in charge of the memory book and flowerbearers were Mr and Mrs Paul Firkins.

Casketbearers were F.F. Fisher, Jack Wright, Fred Schantz, Verlin Dicks, George Dalbey, and Ed Day.

Interment was in the North Page Cemetery.

Fisher, Walter - Funeral services for Walter Fisher were held at 10:30 am Thursday morning, August 7, from the Presbyterian Church. Clergyman was Rev Nadim E. Saikaly.

Mrs Mabel Dunn at the organ accompanied Mrs Carolyn Harris who presented the selections "Beyond the Sunset" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee."

Mrs Ruby Moore, Mrs Zoe Dunn and Mrs Eunice Van Valkenburg were flowerbearers. Mrs Elzene Penton was at the register book.

Obituary - Walter Fisher was born March 19, 1888 in Page County, Iowa, to George and Alice Fisher.

He passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 1969, at 10:30 am at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital, at the age of 81 years.

He was united in marriage to Stella McCully July 22, 1909. To this marriage was born one daughter, Anneva Means of Villisca.

Walter and his wife Stella celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 26, 1969.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Villisca, and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Villisca. He lived and farmed in the Villisca community all of his life. He moved to town in 1950, and was the custodian at the Presbyterian church for about 14 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Stella; his daughter, Anneva Means and her husband Lee Means; one grandson, Ron Means of Houston, Texas; one sister, Mrs Hattie Wilson of Villisca; three brothers, Earl, Fen and Paul Fisher all of Villisca; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends. Fisher, Wylma E. Higgins - Funeral services for Wylma Fisher of Villisca were held Saturday, August 14, 2004 at the United Methodist Church in Villisca with Rev Gordon Scott and Rev Sandra Wainwright officiating. Wolfe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Wylma E. Fisher was born January 5, 1913, in Montgomery County, Ia, to James and Lou (Shepherd) Higgins, and died Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Villisca, where she had been a resident since September 18, 1998.

Wylma graduated in 1930 from Villisca High School and received a teaching certificate from Normal Training. She could have taught school but due to her mother being an invalid and her father's poor health, she chose to stay home and care for them.

Wylma was united in marriage August 16, 1933 to Donald Fisher. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Wylma was an active member of the Methodist Women's Society as long as her health permitted. She was also a member of two neighborhood clubs, a coffee club in Villisca and a member of the Royal Neighbors of America for 75 years.

Wylma was preceded in death by her parents in 1939; her husband Donald in 1986; two sisters, Ona Wagaman and Jessie Wagaman; brother, Fred Higgins; and great-granddaughter, Heather Fisher.

Survivors include her four children: Gale Fisher and wife Ann of Villisca, Guila Murren of Red Oak, Linda Conner and husband Warren of Omaha, Ne, and Steve Fisher and wife Mary of Red Oak; nine grandchildren: Jerry Fisher and wife Carolyn, Kim Shirley and husband Mark, Vonda Renfrow and husband Steve, Darrin Fisher and wife Heather, Mindy Lindquist and husband Ryan, Don Clark and wife Betty, Devon Bauer and husband Jeremy, Ange Kinser and husband Greg, and Daniel Fisher; thirteen great-grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Miss Gasson a resident of Highland Acres the past 2 1/2 years, died Thursday, Aug 31, at Murphy Memorial hospital after an extended illness.

The daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas E. Gasson pioneer residents in this county, she was born June 12, 1879, and had lived most of her life on the farm where her parents had settled in 1869. She attended Prairie Home rural school and Red Oak High school. She was an active member of Cramer Chapel church as long as it existed. Gasson, James Henry - Funeral services for Dr J.H. Gasson, 80, of Shenandoah, formerly of Villisca, were held Tuesday at 2 pm at the Perryman chapel in Red Oak, with the Rev Guy JJ. Fansher of the Methodist church in charge. Dr Gasson, who had practiced medicine most of his life in southwestern Iowa, died Saturday of complications at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines.

Singing at the funeral was by Mrs Orrin Carmichael, accompanied by Mrs Dale Petty, organist, and members of the floral committee were Mrs Eidner Peterson and Mrs Harold Gasson. The pallbearers were Harold Gasson, Eidner Peterson, Garland Lewis, Leslie Cronwall, Jesse Hammersley and Guy Dirrim. Interment was in the North Page cemetery southwest of Villisca.

Born in Carthage, Ill., March 14, 1869, Dr Gasson was the son of Thomas and Sarah Gasson. He came to Iowa in 1869 with his parents and lived in Villisca and later on a farm on the Page-Montgomery county line.

He was a graduate of Iowa State College, Ames, and Creighton medical school, Omaha. He first practiced medicine in Missouri Valley but spent the greater part of his life practicing in Villisca, Bedford, Shenandoah and Red Oak.

A member of the Methodist church, he is survived by his wife, three daughters, five sisters and one brother: Mrs J.W. Winter, Mrs Celia Dirrim, Mrs Guy Dirrim, all of Villisca; Mrs Vera Lewis of Elliott, Miss Myrtle Gasson of Stanton and E.E. Gasson of Stanton.

Gasson, Sarah Langford - Funeral services for Mrs Sarah Gasson, 87, who died Thursday morning of last week at her home southwest of Stanton, were held at 2 pm Sunday at Mrs Gasson's home, with the Rev W.F. Clayburg, Villisca Methodist pastor, in charge. Singing was by a quartet composed of Mr and Mrs A.F. Davie, Miss Sylvia Enarson and H.C. Lindell, with Miss Helen Shepherd as accompanist. Burial was made in the North Page cemetery.

Pallbearers were as follows: Harold Gasson, Stanton; Francis Winter, Red Oak; George Stanton, Nodaway; Eidner Peterson, Stanton; Kenneth Lewis, Elliott; Ned Osborn, Villisca.

Sarah Frances Langford Gasson, a Montgomery county pioneer, was one of the eleven children of George and Jane Langford. She was born November 19, 1845, in Bentley, Ill.

On January 25, 1866, she was united in marriage to Thomas Edmond Gasson at Middle Creek, Ill. To this union eight children were born, all of whom were with her at the time of her death.

In October, 1869, Mr and Mrs Gasson with their two older children, came to Iowa in a covered wagon and settled at Villisca. In the spring of 1870 they built the home southwest of Stanton where Mrs Gasson lived the remainder of her life.

She was a charter member of the Cramer Chapel Methodist Episcopal church. After many years of service, this church was discontinued and her membership was transferred to the Villisca charge.

Mrs Gasson was preceded in death by her husband who passed away March 29, 1901. On April 24, 1928, at the age of 83, she was bereaved by the death of her twin sister, Mrs Mary Immegart, who had spent several of the later years of her life in the Gasson home.

Mrs Gasson is survived by her eight children who are: Mrs N.P. Cronwall, Nodaway; Dr J.H. Gasson, Red Oak; Mrs John Winter, Mrs Bert Dirim, Mrs Guy Dirrim, all of Villisca; E.E. Gasson, Stanton; Mrs Jesse Lewis, Elliott; Miss Myrtle Gasson, who resided with her mother.

Besides her children, she is survived by twenty-two grandchildren and sixteen greatgrandchildren, one sister, Mrs John Everhart of Caney, Kas, and a sister-in-law, Mrs John Langford of Carthage, Illinois.

Gasson, Thomas E. - Thos. E. Gasson was born in Rye, Old England, in 1831. He was the youngest of three children. Emigrating to this country at the age of twenty-one years, he worked for some time at the tailor trade, but finally quit that and entered the mercantile business in which he was very successful. On January 25, 1866, he was married to Sarah Frances Longford and to the union were born eight children, two sons and six daughter, all of whom are living and were present at the funeral. In 1869, he with his family, moved from Illinois to this country, where he purchased land and engaged in farming and stock raising in which he was also successful and amassed considerable property. As a friend and neighbor he was kindhearted and ever ready to help in time of need.

In the year of 1857 he was converted to Christ, and has ever since endeavored to live a true christian life. He with his entire family were members of the M.E. church and Cramer Chapel his church home, has sustained a great loss. On March 24th, 1901, he was taken sick, but his illness was not considered of a serious nature, until just a short time before his death, which occurred Mch 29, 1901, when he was called to a high life. Funeral services were held at Cramer Chapel, March 31st, 1901, conducted by Rev D. Martin pastor, assisted by Presiding Elder Hooker, and interment was made in the North Page cemetery.

Glassco, Inez A. Newsom - Funeral services were held last Friday for Mrs Inez A. Glassco who died suddenly at her home in Pecida, Minn., on Sept 28 at the age of 94.

Mrs Glassco was the mother of Frank L. Glassco and Mrs J.P. Engquist, both of Forest Lake. The funeral services were held at the Mattson funeral home and interment was in Scandinavian cemetery. Rev L.K. Anderson of Faith Lutheran church officiated.

Born in Villisca, Ia, in 1859, Mrs Glassco married John W. Glassco in 1881 [18 Oct 1882 Page County, Iowa]. They moved to Forest Lake in 1902 where they farmed. When Mr Glassco died in 1910, Mrs Glassco made her home with a daughter in Forest Lake. In 1930 she moved to Fern township, Hubbard county, and had resided there ever since.

Graham, Fred A. - Funeral services for Fred A. Graham, 93, of Hepburn will be at 2 pm Tuesday from Lavelle Funeral Home following his death Sunday morning. He had been resident of the Clarinda Res Home for a week.

The Rev J.D. Almes will be in charge of the service with Mrs Helen Hall Hoskinson at the organ and Cecil Smith soloist. Bearers for the burial in North Page cemetery will be Don Miller, Russell Kent, George Dalbey, Lyle Eden, Victor Pollert and Russell Price.

Fred had lived in the Hepburn area for more than 67 years, known for his work as a rural mail carrier until retirement. His rural travel was by horse-drawn vehicles when Hepburn had two routes, when consolidated into one, he went 45 miles a day, of which all but four were in the clay hills of the area.

He was born near Little York, Ill,on Oct 25, 1878 and was married at Hepburn to Elizabeth Dyke on May 27, 1908. He was a member of Trinity United Presbyterian church in Clarinda.

His wife survives him, as do his son, Dale at Clarinda, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. His health has failed during several years, and he was in the Municipal Hospital a week prior to entering Clarinda Rest Home. CLARINDA HERALD JOURNAL, Clarinda, Iowa, Jul 10, 1972 Monday

 

Graham, Hattie Douthit - Mrs Earl (Hattie) Graham, 76, of Shenandoah died Sunday at the hospital in Shenandoah where both she and her husband have been under care and in serious condition.

The funeral plans are from the Presbyterian church in Shenandoah at 3 pm Wednesday. Mrs Graham is a sister of Harry Douthit of rural Clarinda, Callie Douthit of Lyons, Colo, and Mrs Alta Burwell of the Gravity vicinity.

Graham, J. Frank - Miss Annie Graham, of North Page, accompanied by her cousin, Miss Anna Woods, of Rushville, Neb, were in town Saturday on a visit with their many friends here. Miss Woods at one time lived near this place, and went to her first school to Miss Jessie Godfrey. She is now a teacher at Rushville. Miss Graham is the pleasing daughter of the late Wm Graham of North Page. She told us of the death of her brother Frank, who died of a sunstroke in Arizona the 28th ult. Graham, Janette Wood - The body of Mrs Janette Graham, who died September 22 at Waterton hospital in East Moline, Ill., arrived here Friday morning on No 5 and was taken to the home of Mrs Jennie Brownlee, a niece of the deceased, southwest of Villisca for the funeral. Mrs Graham was formerly for twenty-two years a resident of the North Page vicinity southwest of Villisca.

Janette Wood was born at Richland, October 15, going from there with her parents to Kirkwood, Ill., where she grew to womanhood. She was married to Wm Graham on March 19, 1868, and they resided on a farm near Winterset, Iowa, until 1874 when they moved to Walton, Kas., and in 1882 they came to the North Page vicinity.

To this union were born four children, one of whom is deceased. Those living are John S. Graham of Vancouver, Wash., and Geo W. Graham and Mrs Anna Blake of Monmouth, Ill. There are also two brothers and one sister. The husband and father died here in October, 1898. After his death, Mrs Graham made her home most of the time with her daughter.

Mrs Graham joined the United Presbyterian church in her youth. Her funeral was held Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock at the Brownlee home, with Rev Gordon of Hepburn in charge of the service. The singing was by J.T. Todd and Mrs L.W. Scott, with Mrs H.H. Nordyke at the piano. The pallbearers were C.J. Schantz, Theo Schantz, C.E. Moore, F.L. Fisher, S.Y. McCune and Roy Royer and interment was in the North Page cemetery beside the husband of the deceased. Mrs Graham's son and daughter and her brother, John W. Graham, William - Fairview and Hepburn Items - We are called upon to mourn the loss of one of the oldest settlers of North Page, Mr William Graham, aged about 55 years. He died at 4 o'clock pm on Sunday, March 27, '98, of plural pneumonia having been sick only five days. The services were held at North Page church on Tuesday at 2 pm. Rev Brockett officiating. Graham, William Earl - W. Earl Graham, 77, a native of Clarinda and farmer in the area until 1923, died at Shenandoah Saturday morning following a 16-month illness. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 pm at the United Presbyterian Church in Shenandoah with the Rev William Beattie as clergyman. He will conduct a prayer service for the family at 1:45 pm in Fellowship Hall of the church. Interment will be in North Page Cemetery. Hackett Funeral Home is in charge.

Mr Graham was custodian in the Shenandoah Community Schools for 25 years, serving most recently as custodian in the United Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by two sons, Robert of Long Beach, Calif, and Wayne of Shenandoah; one daughter, Mrs Darrel (Gertrude) Carlson of Clarinda; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; a brother, Fred Graham of Hepburn; a sister, Mrs Anna Blakeman of Clarinda. His wife preceded him in death Nov 14, 1965, and a son Harold in 1963.

Hutsell, Viola Margaret - Viola Margaret, little daughter of Mr and Mrs Geo. Hutsell of near Cramer Chapel southwest of Villisca, died Tuesday evening at 7 o'clock at the age of six months and twelve days. She was born Aug 31, 1922. Johnston, James - Burial services for James "Jim" Johnston, 84, were held this Thursday in the family lot at North Page cemetery. His death came Monday morning at his home in rural Mound City, Mo, following a long illness.

Funeral services were held this Thursday at the Schooler Funeral Home in Craig, Mo.

Survivors include his wife and four children and a brother, Charles J. Johnston of Des Moines. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Tom Johnston, early residents of Clarinda. Johnston, Tom - Funeral services were held at the Walker Funeral Home here this Monday afternoon for Tom Johnston, 81, former Clarindan who died in a hospital at Lusk, Wyoming, Thursday.

The Rev D.C. Davis, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Clarinda, conducted the service at the funeral home. The local Odd Fellows lodge, of which Johnston was a member, conducted a graveside committal service at the North Page cemetery and furnished pallbearers.

Johnston, was born in Dain county, Wisconsin, and came to Clarinda with his parents as a three-year old boy in 1872. He lived here all the remainder of his life, except the last five years when he lived with his children at Torrington, Wyo. He was in failing health during that time, but was seriously ill for only three weeks, the last week of which was spent in the Lusk hospital near Torrington.

He married the former Maggie Weir in 1892 and the couple had 13 children. Mrs Johnston, two daughter and three sons preceded Mr Johnston in death.

Sank coal Mine

While farming just west of Clarinda, Johnston sank one of the first coal mine shafts in southwest Iowa in 1900. It was located near the timber known as West woods. Upon moving into Clarinda later, Johnston conducted a repair shop and served as justice of the peace for Nodaway township for 16 years until going to Wyoming.

Surviving are: seven sons, David D. and John R. of Torrington, Wyo; James of Lingle, Wyo, Charles J. of Bloomington, Iowa, Chester H. of York, Neb, Hugh R. of Walla, Wash, and Col Robert G with the US occupation forces in Japan; one daughter, Mrs Ruth Ward of Des Moines; a brother James of Torrington, Wyo; a sister, Mrs Margaret Burwell of Grand Junction, Colo; 24 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Kennedy, Kenneth Kirk - Memorial services for Kenneth Kirk Kennedy, 85, of Villisca, Ia, will be held Friday December 20, 1991, at 2 pm at the Nodaway Methodist Church in Nodaway, Ia, with the Rev Kevin Glesener officiating. Masonic services will be conducted by Iroquois Lodge AF&AM at the church. The body will be cremated and the remains will be buried at a later date at North Page Cemetery.

K.K. (Kenneth), son of Edward "Ted" and Grace Kirk Kennedy, was born December 13, 1906, on a farm south of Nodaway, Ia, and died December 13, 1991, at the Good Samaritan Center in Villisca, Ia.

Upon graduation from Nodaway High School in 1924, he attended Parsons College in Fairfield. He received a bachelor of science degree in 1928 and was named All State Football Conference guard.

It was a football game against Tulsa University that gave K.K. his first glimpse of the oil industry and led him to Oklahoma and Texas in the late 1920's. He worked for Phillips Petroleum until 1940 when he started his own oil field construction company.

K.K. married Verna Winter of Villisca in 1932.

They raised two children, Kay Don and Carol Jo in Oklahoma City. They returned to Iowa in 1962 to farm south of Nodaway until his retirement.

In Oklahoma City he was co-founder of the East Side Chamber of Commerce, a member of Christ Methodist Church and its building committee. He was a member of the Nodaway Methodist Church, a Shriner and a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years.

Survivors include his wife; son K.D. and wife Cathie of Tucson, Az; daughter Carol Jo Williams and husband J.D. of Alexandria, Va; grandchildren, Walter H. Williams of Los Angeles, Ca, and Sarah Louise Williams of Deerfield, Ma; sister, Josephine Fabricius and husband Martin of Osage, Ia; and niece, Carl Fabricius Cox and husband David of Ames.

Kennedy, Verna C. Winter - Memorial services for Verna C. Winter Kennedy will be held Sat., Oct 2, 1999, at the United Methodist Church, Nodaway, Ia, with the Rev Robert Beard officiating. Burial will be in the North Page Cemetery, near Villisca.

Verna Celia Winter Kennedy was born Oct 30, 1906, in Grant, Ia, to John and Laura Gasson Winter. She died Sept 26, 1999, at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center.

She moved to Villisca when she was five years-old. She graduated from Villisca High school in 1925, and taught in rural schools before graduating from Iowa State Teachers College. She taught in Dallas Center until her marriage to Kenneth Kirk (Kay) Kennedy in 1932.

They lived in Oklahoma City where he had a pipeline construction company. She sang with the Oklahoma Choral Society, "The Mother Singers Quartet", which appeared on local television, as well as her church choir. She was a devoted Camp Fire Girls Leader and in 1953, was named one of the counties most outstanding leaders of girls. She was also president of the P.T.A. In 1962 Verna and Kay returned to Iowa to farm south of Nodaway. She was a member of the Nodaway Methodist Church and enjoyed activities centered around the church and the Villisca Good Samaritan Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1991, two brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by son K.D. Kennedy and wife Cathie, Tucson, Az, and daughter Carol Jo Williams and husband J.D., Washington, D.C. Also two grandchildren: Walter H. Williams, Los Angeles, Ca, and Sarah Louise Williams, Washington, D.C.

Kerns, Danny E. - Funeral services were held here Monday at 2 pm at the Wolfe funeral home for Danny E. Kerns, 8-year-old son of Mr and Mrs Wayne R. Kerns of East Moline, Ill.

He was a grandson of Mr and Mrs Oscar Schantz of Villisca and Mr and Mrs Walter R. Kerns of Creston. He died Friday morning, March 25, of a brain tumor at the Moline Public hospital following illness of three weeks.

He was born Nov 26, 1946, in Moline and lived all his life in East Moline. He was a student in the second grade of McKinley school, East Moline. Surviving him, besides his parents and grandparents, are two sisters, Mrs Rayder Peterson, Hampton, and Katherine Kerns at home. One sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services in Villisca were conducted by the Rev Ralph G. Allen, pastor of the Clarinda Christian church. Flowerbearers were Mrs Elvin Campbell, Mrs Ralph Brokow, Mrs Harold Bean and Mrs Cleo Hall, and pallbearers were Elvin Campbell, Cleo Hall, Harold Bean and Ralph Brokow. Kerns, Dorothy Schantz - A Villisca woman was pronounced dead at the scene of a one car accident Saturday morning north of Clarinda, but her death may not be counted as a traffic fatality.

Sheriff Dick Hunt said this Monday that Mrs Dorothy Kerns of rural Villisca, may have been dead before the accident. Hunt said county coroner Dr E.E. Zehr and a pathologist would be going an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

"The nature of the injuries, and lack of bleeding leads us to believe she may have died before the accident occurred," said Hunt. Hunt said the results of the autopsy should be known within a week.

Mrs Kerns, 65, was southbound on M-70 (Wall Street) Saturday morning when her car veered off the east side of the road, paralleled a bridge and jumped a creek imbedding the car in the bank of the creek. Deputy Lanny Adkins said witnesses told him the car "just veered off the road, it didn't swerve."

Mrs Kerns was pronounced dead at the scene by Zehr after being pulled from the car by Clarinda rescue unit personnel.

If the death is ruled a traffic fatality, it would be the second fatality accident in Page County this year.

Funeral services for Mrs Kerns will be conducted at the Clarinda Memorial Chapel, at 2 pm Tuesday. Rev John Clark will officiate and burial will be in the North Page Cemetery near Hepburn.

Casketbearers will be Stanley Brownlee, Dean Schantz, Lisle Renander, Junior Renander, Carroll Nelson, and Gale Fisher. Honorary bearers will be LaVon Schantz, Glenn Brownlee, Donald Fisher, Warren Renander, and Lowell Schantz. Mr and Mrs Robert Brannan and Mr and Mrs William Baker will be in charge of the flowers, and Mrs Mildred Bean will be in charge of the memory register. Mrs William Kramer will be in charge of the music.

Mrs Kerns passed away Saturday morning near Clarinda. She was born Oct 22, 1913 at Hepburn, the daughter of Oscar and Dosia Edmonds Schantz. On Aug 24, 1930, Dorothy was united in marriage to Wayne R. Kerns, at the Methodist Church Parsonage. In 1946 they moved to Moline, Illinois and returned in 1976 to farm in North Page County. Wayne passed away on Nov 3, 1977. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Clarinda, and a member of the Eastern Star.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters Mrs Phyllis Jean Peterson of Galesburg, Ill, and Mrs Bill (Kathy) Penrod of Orion, Ill, four grandchildren, her mother Dosia Schantz of rural Villisca, and her sister Mrs Bruce (Nola) Otte, of Clarinda. Kerns, Shirley Beth - Funeral services will be held at 2 pm this Thursday at the Oscar Schantz home southwest of Villisca for their infant granddaughter, Shirley Beth Kerns, daughter of Mr and Mrs Wayne Kerns of Moline, Ill. The baby, born April 8, lived only one day and died at the Moline Public hospital. She was brought to the Wolfe funeral home. Burial was in the North Page cemetery. Kerns, Wayne R. - Funeral services for Wayne R. Kerns, 66, of rural Villisca, were conducted Monday, November 7, 1977, at 2 pm, at Clarinda Memorial Chapel, Rev John Clark officiated. Burial was in the North Page Cemetery.

Mr Kerns passed away suddenly at Clarinda Municipal Hospital Thursday, Nov 3, 1977. He was born December 20, 1910 at Conway, Ia, the son of Walter Ray and Bernice Denton Kerns. In 1926 he moved with his family to a farm northeast of Clarinda, and attended and graduated from Clarinda High School.

In 1930, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Schantz, at the Methodist Parsonage in Clarinda. They resided in Creston after their marriage, and returned to Clarinda in 1935 where he was employed at Lisle Mfg.

In 1942 they moved to Rock Island, Ill, and he was employed at the Rock Island Arsonal, and in 1946 he began working for John Deer in their foundry in East Moline, Ill. He retired and returned to North Page County in January of 1976.

Survivors include his mother of Osceola, Ia, wife Dorothy of rural Villisca, two daughters Mrs Phyllis Jean Peterson of Gaylsburg, Ill, Mrs Bill (Kathy) Penrod of Orion, Illinois, a brother Clifford D. Kerns of Paradise, Calif, a sister Mrs Dick Lucille Bell of Osceola, Iowa, and four grandchildren.

Preceeding him were his father, one son and one infant daughter.

Casket bearers were Ethric Brown, Leonard Craycraft, Dale Huber, Darrel Huber, Duaine Huber, and Leslie O'Neal. Mrs Norma Kramer was in charge of the music. Mrs Mildred Bean in charge of the register and Mr and Mrs Bob Brannen and Mr and Mrs Glenn Brownlee were in charge of the flowers.

Kunze, Forrest Earl - Funeral services were held for Forrest Earl Kunze Sunday, Oct 20, 1968 at 2 pm from the Wolfe Funeral Home. Rev Fred C. Rowley officiated.

Pallbearers were Robert Scott, Floyd Mullen, Orville Marsh, Galen Russell, Leonard Kelley, Robert B. Brannan, John C. Brannan, and Robert C. Brannan.

Miss Helen Bunker was the organist, Mrs Galen Russell and Mrs Robert Scott were flowerbearers.

Obituary - Forrest Earl Kunze, son of William and Ann Birkenholtz Kunze, was born April 13, 1899 in Jasper County, Iowa. He died Oct 15, 1968 in Boulder, Colorado at the age of 69 years, 6 months and 2 days.

Kunze, Mildred Brannan - Mildred Brannan Kunze, age 96, died Saturday, October 24, 2009, in Boulder, Colorado. Graveside services were held Saturday, October 31, 2009, at the North Page Cemetery outside Villisca, Iowa.

Mildred Kunze was born June 28, 1913, in Montgomery County, Iowa, near Villisca, to John Franklin Brannan and Viola Bunker Brannan. Mildred Brannan married Forest Kunze in Galena, Illinois on May 25, 1934, and lived in Newton, Iowa, for ten year moving to Boulder on May 1, 1944.

She was a homemaker and housed University of Colorado students for many years. She was a lifelong member of Queen Ester Chapter #5, Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Boulder Genealogical Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Forest in 1968, two brothers Dr John Clark Brannan and Robert Brannan, and sister-in-law Irma Brannan.

She is survived by nieces Kathy Grant of Macon, Georgia, and Helen Miller of Omaha, Nebraska, and nephews Jim Brannan of Clemson, South Carolina, Bob Brannan of Omaha, Nebraska, and Maurice Brannan of Enid, Oklahoma.

Larsen, George L. - George L. Larsen, age seventy-four, of Tolland, Ct., formerly of Villisca, died Friday, July 27, 1984, in Hartford, Ct.

Mr Larsen was born in Villisca and attended school here. He was the son of Harry D. Larsen and Hattie M. Wilson. He lived in Florida for many years and moved to Connecticut this July.

He is survived by two sons: Robert Larsen, Tolland, Ct; Ronald A. Larsen, Manchester, Ct; and a daughter, Sharon E. Colomitz of Florida, and nine grandchildren.

Lewis, Garland L. - Funeral services for Garland LaVerne Lewis of Stanton, Ia, were held March 1, 2002, at Tabor Lutheran Church North of Stanton, with the Rev Dr Eric Kutzli, officiating. Burial was at the North Page Cemetery.

Garland Lewis was born August 16, 1921, near Villisca, Ia to Jesse and Vera (Gasson) Lewis and died February 26, 2002, in Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Ia.

He graduated from high school in 1939 in Elliott, Ia, where he lived since the age of two years old. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942, and was stationed in the San Francisco, Ca, area during the war, boarding and sealing transmitters on incoming ships.

He was united in marriage to Ruby Peterson on July 15, 1944, at the Tabor Lutheran Church. After the war the couple returned to Elliott, and started an electrical business, wiring homes and repairing radios. They moved to the Wallin area in 1952 and farmed there for fifty years.

His interests and hobbies were hunting and fishing, operating his dozer, restoring antique furniture, traveling, and researching family history.

Preceding him in death were his parents and brother Kenneth.

Survivors include his wife; son Stephen Lewis and wife Jean of Plattsmouth, Ne; daughter Sharon Anderson and husband Glenn of Adair, Ia; grandsons Michael Lewis and wife Tammy of Omaha, Ne; Sean Lewis and wife Michelle of Thornton, Co; John Lewis and wife Crystal of Waverly, Ne; Wade Anderson of Des Moines, Ia; and Jeff Anderson of Adair, Ia; great-grandchildren Brandon, Kelly, Elizabeth, Sara and Emma Jean; and sister Mrs Myrtle Wollenhaupt of Wapello, Ia; two step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. Lewis, Jean Lynette Simmons - Jean Lynette Lewis, age 71, of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, was born on May 11th, 1945, she entered into rest on February 24th, 2017.

Jean is survived by her three sons: Michael Lewis and wife Tammy of Omaha, Nebraska; Sean Lewis of Thornton, Colorado; John Lewis and wife Jennifer of Waverly, Nebraska; nine grandchildren; two brothers: Bob Simmons and wife Janet of Soldotna, Alaska; Jerry Simmons of New Munich, Minnesota; and sister-in-law Gloria Simmons of Andover, Minnesota.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 2nd, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, at Roby Funeral Home in Plattsmouth, Nebraska.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 3rd, starting at 10:30 am at First United Methodist Church in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Internment will be held at North Page Cemetery in Villisca, Iowa.

Lewis, Kenneth Raymond - Kenneth Raymond Lewis, 23, died at his home at Elliott Friday, December 13, of abscess of the liver. He had been in poor health for a number of years. His last illness was since August 15 of this year.

Kenneth Raymond Lewis, was born on a farm near Villisca April 21, 1912, a son of Jesse A. and Vera A. Lewis. He moved with his parents to a farm near Elliott in 1924. He attended the Elliott school until ill health prevented him to finish. He was a member of the Methodist church at Elliott and a faithful worker in church and Sunday school activities.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Methodist church in Elliott with Rev M.A. Baker, former pastor of the Elliott church now located at Missouri Valley, in charge. Burial was in a cemetery near Hepburn.

The deceased is survived by his parents, one brother, Garland Lewis, and one sister, Myrtle Lewis. Dr J.H. Gasson of Bedford, formerly of Red Oak, is an uncle. RED OAK EXPRESS, Red Oak, Iowa, Dec 16, 1935

 

Lewis, Ruby J. Peterson - Funeral services for Ruby Jeaette Lewis, 77, Stanton, were Saturday, Sept 21, at Tabor Lutheran Church north of Stanton with Rev Harold L. Peterson officiating. Burial was in the North Page Cemetery, south of Stanton. Memorials are suggested to the Tabor Lutheran Church, Stanton Fire and Rescue, Children's Square and Stanton Historical Society. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in Red Oak was in charge of arrangements. Mrs Lewis died Tuesday (Sept 17 2002) at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.

She was born Feb 18, 1925, on a farm northeast of Stanton, to Dewey and Lottie (Bycroft) Peterson. At the age of four, her family moved to a farm north of Stanton, where she attended Burke Country School and Stanton High School. After graduation, she worked at the Union Pacific Company in Omaha. She was united in marriage to Garland Lewis July 15, 1944, at Tabor Lutheran Church, north of Stanton, after which they traveled to San Francisco, Ca, where Mr Lewis was stationed in the U.S. Coast Guard. When World War II ended, they moved to Elliott to operate a radio and electrical shop. They returned to her childhood home in 1952, and farmed there for 50 years. She was a member of Stanton Historical Society and a devoted member of Tabor Lutheran Church, where she served in many capacities. Over the years, she especially enjoyed teaching Sunday school, refinishing many of the family's antiques, researching family history, gardening, working at the Swedish Heritage and Cultural Center, visiting with family and friends and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Garland Lewis, Feb 26, 2002.

Survivors include her son, Stephen Lewis and his wife Jean of Plattsmouth, Ne; a daughter, Sharon Anderson and her husband Glenn of Adair; five grandsons, Michael Lewis and his wife Tammy of Omaha, Sean Lewis and his wife Michelle of Thornton, Co, John Lewis and his wife Crystal of Waverly, Ne, Wade Anderson of West Des Moines and Jeff Anderson of Adair; five great-grandchildren, Brandon, Kelly, Elizabeth, Sara and Emma; a sister, Leona Kuhl and her husband Harvey of Santa Maria, Ca; two step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Lewis, Vera Jane Gasson - Stanton--Funeral services for Mrs Vera Jane Lewis, 82, Route 1, Stanton, were held Wednesday, June 17, at United Methodist Church, Elliott, with the Rev Walter Flesner officiating and burial in North Page Cemetery of Page County with arrangements by Nelson Chapel, Red Oak.

Mrs Lewis, lifetime resident of Montgomery County, died Monday, June 15, at Murphy Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, after an extended illness.

The daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas Gasson, she was born July 27, 1887, in this county and was married in 1911 to Jesse Allen Lewis, who died in 1962.

Surviving are a son, Garland, Stanton; daughter, Mrs Myrtle Wollenhaupt, Elliott; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs Mabel B. Dirrim, Villisca.

Mahrenholz, Roy - Roy Mahrenholz of Council Bluffs died Friday and was buried Tuesday in the family lot in North Page cemetery after funeral services were conducted in Council Bluffs. His wife, Mrs Merle Bagley Mahrenholz, and other relatives were dinner guests Tuesday in the Mr and Mrs Donald Fisher home near Villisca and called at the Fred L. Fisher home in the afternoon. Mahrenholz, Vivian Merle Bagley - MrsVivian Merle Mahrenholz, 75, died Tuesday, June 3 at 7:20 am at the Community Hospital in Hawthorne, Calif, after a short illness.

She was born Sep 20, 1882 near Villisca, Iowa, in Page County. She was the daughter of Orin Bagley and Susan Newsom Bagley Cummings now deceased. Mrs Mahrenholz has spent the last 34 years of her life in Council Bluffs, Ia, where she has many friends who will miss her.

Preceeding her in death were her parents and both husbands, Lewis D. Springer and Roy Mahrenholz.

She is survived by five children, Dale F. Springer, Compton, Calif, Leo C. Springer, Gardena, Calif, Mrs Irene Finchem, Gardena, Calif, Mrs Glenna Achter, Muscatine, Ia, and LeRoy C. Mahrenholz, Council Bluffs, Ia, also six grandchildren and one great grand child.

Margerum, George - George Margerum, 73, was found dead at his home at Second avenue and Sixth street shortly after noon Thursday of last week by City Marshal Frank Butler, M.C. Eberhart and Joe Gourley who went to investigate after Charles Benjamin and Mr Eberhart could get no response from Mr Margerum a few minutes earlier.

Justice P.L. Hazlett of Red Oak was called, in the absence of Coroner Walter Sellergren, and stated that death apparently resulted from a heart attack sometime Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. No inquest was held. Mr Margerum had arisen in his night attire and had fallen forward on his face, striking a piece of coal which caused bleeding.

The body was taken to the Sutphen funeral parlors where it remained for the funeral services which were held there at 1:30 pm Saturday. Mrs W.S. Bowden, wife of the pastor of the local Advent church, had charge of the services. Burial was in the North Page cemetery.

Mrs Dave Penwell and Miss Erma Strait sang for the services and were accompanied by Mrs C.C. Strait, pianist. Pallbearers were J.W. Delaney, A.L. Belding, Scott Findley, Clyde Taylor, P.L. Yarrington and Chas Benjamin.

Geo Margerum was born in Page county on Sept 16, 1862, a son of David and Letha Margerum. He was united in marriage Jan 20, 1891 with Carrie B. Rankin and to them were born four sons and one daughter, all of whom are living.

The deceased had lived in Villisca since 1920 when he came here from Nodaway where he had lived the four previous years. He was employed many years at selling and installing pumps and windmills.

He is survived by his sons, Elmer, George, Leslie and Ervin, and his daughter, Blanch, of Omaha. He leaves also several grandchildren and more distant relatives. VILLISCA REVIEW, Villisca, Iowa, Nov 29, 1935

 

Raymer, Dortha May Whitney - Funeral services for Mrs Elmer (Dortha May) Raymer, 75, of New Market will be at 2 pm Friday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Carl Cummings officiating.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7-8 pm this Thursday evening.

Mrs Raymer died Monday evening at Bethesda Care Center where she had been for the past week.

She was born Mar 19, 1907, in Page County, the daughter of Samuel and Jennie Kenworthy Whitney.

Mrs Raymer had worked at MHI for 18 years.

Mrs Raymer is survived by her husband Elmer of the home and four children: Mrs Jess Irene) Love of Indianola, Ia, Mrs Lyle (Marie) Pitman of New Market, James Cameron of Lincoln, Ne, and Garrald Cameron of Yankton, SD. There are 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Mrs Wade (Lucille) Crawford of Clarinda is a sister and Alva Whitney of Apache Junction, Az, is a brother.

Shirley Larson will be soloist and Grace Perry organist. Casket bearers will be Bill Horton, Dale Combs, Rick Graham, Bill Bix, Roger Gant and Lorence Hanson.

Spainhower, Helen Tompkins - Mrs Helen Tompkins Spainhower, 73, died Aug 27 at the St Joseph hospital in Orange, Calif. She had been ill and bedfast for the past five and a half weeks.

Mrs Spainhower was born Apr 8, 1890 at Clarinda, the daughter of Mr and Mrs James and Charolotte Tompkins. After graduation from the Clarinda schools she attended and graduated from the Nebraska Methodist Hospital School of Nursing at Omaha. She was employed at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital as supervisor of nurses and at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha as surgical supervisor.

On December 7, 1929 she moved to California and was married to Oscar V. Spainhower Dec 11, 1929 at the Wee Kirk of the Heather in Glendale. They were the 72nd couple to be married in this church during the first week it was opened. The family home is at 1226 West Park Lane, Santa Ana, Calif.

Mrs Spainhower was a member of the Nebraska Nursing Association and has been a lifetime member of the United Presbyterian church.

She is survived by her husband, Oscar V. Spainhower of the home in California, who has returned to Iowa for the services; six sisters, Mrs Ruth Robinson of San Diego, Calif; Mrs Ora Griffith of Fresno, Calif; Miss Lola Tompkins and Mrs Ava Carney both of Shenandoah; Mrs Clara Riggle of Tulsa, Okla, and Mrs Charles Dugan of College Springs; two brothers, Roy Tompkins of College Springs and Charles Tompkins of Shenandoah.

The funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept 3 at 2 pm at the Williams Memorial Chapel in Clarinda, Dr J.D. Almes, pastor of Trinity United Presbyterian church, will officiate. The pallbearers will be James Tompkins, Kennard Tompkins, William Dugan, Larry Griffith, Eldon Griffith and Uril Good. Interment will be in the family lot in the Clarinda Cemetery.
