MARTIN KRUGER DIES ON SAIPAN

The Harris community was saddened Monday by the news that Pfc. Martin Kruger, Jr. had been killed in action. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. George M. Kruger were notified by a war department message which came July 17.

Pfc. Kruger entered the army via the selective service October 1, 1941. He was sent overseas in March 1942 and saw action in the Marshall Islands. From the Marshall's he went back to Hawaii.

In June 1944, he went to Saipan, where he was killed in action while serving with the U.S. Infantry. Pfc. Kruger was overseas 27 months and in the service 32 months. He never had a furlough.

A brother, Pfc. Kreine Kruger, serves with the U.S. Air Corps. When last heard from he was somewhere in France.

Pfc. Martin G, Kruger was 27 years old and was born in George where he attended the country school. He moved to Harris in March, 1949, where they were engaged in farming.

He is survived by his parents, six brothers, Kreine, in the service, Bennie, Herman, George, Thomas and Elra Gene. For sister, Angeline, Helen, Mrs. Peter DeWeerdt, Rock Rapids, Kathryn and Matilda.
