Baker Twp. Cemetery
Baker Twp., Osceola County, Iowa
The cemetery is located 2 miles east & 2 miles north of Melvin, IA on L54 (or Taft Ave.). It is located on the southeast corner of the section & is marked by an arch with “Baker” (See photo). This cemetery was established in the 1870’s when St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church was located immediately to the south of the cemetery. There is no longer any indication that the church building was present there. St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church became American Lutheran Church of Melvin, IA.
The cemetery is divided into sections. The first section is to the north of the northern-most road leading into the cemetery from L54. Listings here begin at the far northwest corner of the cemetery – coming south as far as the road leading into the cemetery. Some of the markers are difficult to read – where they are in German, both the German and the English translations are given.
