Coordinator's Note: Evidently, the service record was not obtained directly from the soldier for it is the service record of one John H. Armstrong who died in California 09 Feb 1918. Per the Roster of the 12th Ohio Cavalry, John W. Armstrong was appointed 1st Lieutenant, Company D,  26 Oct 1863, was promoted to Captain of Company E, 11 May 1865 and resigned 20 Jul 1865.
