Word
of Life Christian Center was established on September 6th, 1981
after months of home bible studies. The first meetings were held
at the shelter house in Pammel Park. After a few weeks, the
meetings were moved to the American Legion Hall in Winterset.
Because of needed space the church then moved to the school
building in Scott Township, southeast of Winterset. That remained
their meeting place until February 1983, when they built and moved
into their new building South of Winterset at 2611 Hwy 169.
Involved in founding the church were the families: Berry, Gibson,
Kelly, Kirk, Loomis, Smith, Tucker and Wight.
In 1988, the church added a 100x60 annex building to the main building for the use of a fellowship hall as well as children and youth rooms. The church also built a youth center in 1988 called, "The Power Company Teen Center". The building is located at 1001 W. Summit St, in Winterset. The building has a ¾ sized gymnasium, a kitchen and dining area and upstairs is an auditorium. The church added to its main building location again in 1998. Space was added to have storage and open up space to enlarge the kitchen and fellowship hall to better serve the congregation. In 2002 Word of Life Christian Center registered a name change (DBA) to Word of Life Family Church. Pastors who have served the church are Dan Berry & wife Ann (1981-1991), Charles Moran & wife Marsha (1991-1997), and Bruce Wangler & wife Nicole (1997 to present). __________________
