The Methodist Church at Truro, Iowa, grew out of the old Ohio Church which was organized in 1876.  The Church was built about three and one-half miles northeast of Truro.  In 1892, a new church was organized in Truro and the building was completed and dedicated in the summer of 1893.

Because so many members of the Ohio Church had moved away and the congregation was so small, the remaining members decided in 1890 to build a church in Truro.  During the time the church was being built the members worshiped in the Christian Church in Truro.

The first minister was Rev. George McDougal.  Only two members of the original Ohio Methodist Church are still living at this time.  After the church was completed, the congregation shared the services of the minister with the Peru Methodist Church.  Later, this connection was broken, and they were placed with the New Virginia Church.

In 1928, they decided to build a new church.  It was completed and dedicated in 1929.  About ten years ago a yoke was formed with the Congregational Christian Church in Truro and the same minister serves both churches.  The Rev. James Nicholson is the present pastor of both churches.

Those who were trustees when the new church was built were:  Dr. James Hutchinson, I. E. McLees, W. O. Creger, J. S. Marks, Glenn Queen, and D. F. Reed.

The present church has been enlarged and a large Sunday School room added.  The kitchen has been enlarged and new pews placed in the sanctuary.  A beautiful altar was built by Mr. Arthur Purvis a few years ago and an electric organ was presented to the church by Dr. W. C. Coleman and his wife.

The present membership of the church (as of 1966) is more than two hundred.
