Madison County censuses from
inception through 1930 were transcribed by County Coordinator
Kent Transier, all of them between 2000 and 2013 with the
exception of the 1925 Iowa State Census which was completed in
2020. All of the early censuses were posted, upon completion, on
two national census websites sponsored by USGenWeb.
In about 2017, those two websites
were abandoned. Although recently, one of them became active
again, a cloud of uncertainty remains regarding the long term
viability of both of the national websites. In response, we have elected to post
all Madison County censuses on this website. This was a fairly
major project involving the generation of close to 1000 new web
pages. As each census was migrated to this website, we cut the link to the USGenWeb
census sites. At the same time, we
have made accumulated corrections and enhanced the index to
make it easier to find your relative. You will find that the
format of the censuses on this website provides for much easier
reading of the data than that found on the national census
sites.. The project was completed as of 26 Feb
