Up to 1904, Lyon County had no municipalities of a higher order than "village incorporations."  The first place to incorporate as such, was Rock Rapids, in 1885.  The following is a complete list of such incorporations in the county:

Rock Rapids, Beloit, Larchwood, Inwood, Lester, Alvord, Doon, George and Little Rock.

Steps were taken a few years since to place Rock Rapids in the class of "Town," but at that date, the necessary 2,000 population was not found.  It is probably now entitled to be an incorporated town.
