A girl named Calista Hemphill, of Center Point, Linn county, aged 16 years, was fatally burned last Thursday by the explosion of a kerosene oil can while attempting to build a fire. She died on the following evening in great agony.

A birth occurred in the county jail at Cedar Rapids a few days ago. Mother and child are both doing well. Lena Stanton, who was sent up for horse stealing, was the mother.
