Obituary

Memorial services were held at Red Rock Chapel, Morrison, Colorado on January 26, 2007. He received full military honors by a Navy Honor Guard at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, where a commemorative stone will be placed.

Dick was born on April 13, 1942 in Fairfield, the son of George and Mary (Miletich) Lane. He attended Fairfield public schools and his family moved to Iowa City, Iowa in 1958.

Dick served in the United States Navy during the Cuba Missile Crisis.

After completing his military service, he graduated from the University of Iowa and moved to Colorado where he made his home until his death.

Dick worked as an editor throughout his professional life. Being employed by American Waterworks, MacTech, Libraries Unlimited and URS until his final illness.

He was a distinguished member and post officer of the Denver Astronomical Society and a dedicated volunteer educator at the Chamberlin Observatory located on the University of Denver campus. Dick was one of few licensed to operate the two-story telescope for viewing the night skies.

Dick remained very fond of Fairfield and his many friends there and returned often for visits.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Meghan and Kirk Firko of Lakewood, Colorado, a son Brandon of Littleton, Colorado, a sister, Mary Martin (Rosemary) Lane of Waterloo, Iowa and brothers, Dennis of Coronado, CA, Gary (wife Gerda) of Davenport, Iowa, and Joe (wife Bev) of Marion, Iowa and numerous nieces and nephews.
