THE SOCIETY The Iowa City Genealogical Society in Johnson County, Iowa, was founded in 1967 by a group of people interested in tracing their roots and in helping others who wanted to research family history. As the Society developed, additional broader objectives evolved to include general promotion of genealogy by preserving and disseminating historical data, acquiring genealogical references, and supporting the Iowa Genealogical Society and the State Historical Society Library in Iowa City. Regular meetings are held on the last Saturday of each month at the LDS Library, 2730 Bradford Drive, Iowa City, Iowa. Meetings begin at 9:30 a.m. The meetings usually include a presentation on a genealogical topic of general interest. NEWSLETTER ICGS publishes a newsletter ten times a year and it is mailed to all members. A typical newsletter contains our president’s message, announcements of ICGS meetings as well as conferences and national meetings, a short description of queries received, information on current projects of ICGS, and often some general genealogical news items and tips. PUBLICATIONS The Iowa City Genealogical Society has published many Johnson County records such as marriage records from 1839 to 1903, gravestone records of all cemeteries, indexes for some county histories, early land map records, and the 1840 and 1856 censuses. The publications are available through the Iowa Genealogical Society in Des Moines. For a list and prices of these publications see:
