                                                                      p. 1
          GERMAN EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN IMMANUEL
             Cemetery - York-
                              By Pauline Lillie

Location
Section 5, York 79, Range 9, off Interstate Hy. 80 south at the inter-
section of Colony Village; First road west top of hill; On the south
side of the road west of a Large New Church. Evergreens may be seen
from the Interstate Highway.

History
No mention in 1881 History, or 1874 Atlas; In the 1900 Atlas p.23
lists a church but no cemetery. This would be east of the center
of section. In 1915 lists church no cemetery.

Following information from Miscellaneous Book 2 p. 242 Recorder, Iowa
County where the church is listed as German Evangelical Lutheran
Immanuels Congregation and has articles of Incorporation; to Public-
Filed March 24, 1898- Following Diedrich Heitshusen-Alfred Maas-Died-
rich Schwarting-Henry Wille-J.D.Heitshusen- Herm W. Hudepohl-Henry
Glandorf-Albert Wille-Herman Kihlenbeck-Henry Koester- Fred C. Newkirk
John Riestedt.

Legal
Other information; Book 54 p. 629 and 630 Bk. 58 p. 179- Bk. 60 p.84
and Bk. 68 p. 432- Also the following Albert Wille and Wife to German
Evangelical Lutheran Immanuel Congregation- dated March 17, 1898 (run-
ning description) in NW¼ of SE¼ Section 5, township 79, Range 9. There
are other listings in above books for those interested.

The church is located on the west part of the church property. Evidently
the cemetery was used about the same time as the incorporation articles
for the church were recorded.

Condition
Kept very nice mowed and landscaped easy to maintain, as no trash or
flowers have collected around stones.

Remarks
Probably most buried here have stones, for these German people were very
appreciative of their ancestors, and would place a stone. Very nice
stones, most easy to read, well constructed, or repaired; There is a
large new church in use east of the cemetery and question may be asked
from the resident minister, living here.

Researched by Pauline Lillie- Ladora.
