Iowa County Cemetery Stones and History 1844-1975 (manuscript) by Pauline Lillie

                              LONGSTRETH CEMETERY
                                    HISTORY

Located
Lincoln 79 Township, Range 12, Section 28 south of Victor on V. road
about 8 miles, then east of south again. Private cemetery near road
south of garage on Roger Kusel farm (1976)

History
On the 1874 Atlas no cemetery; Land owned by R.A. Longstreth, with
S. Longstreth across the road; 1900 Atlas p. 17 lists cemetery on
the John A. Hahn farm; No families name of Longstreth appear; Atlas
1915 page 21 lists cemetery on Geo. Bayer Jr. farm.

History (1881) mentions John Longstreth as early settler; That he
passed away recently (History 1881- p, 758)

Cemeteries first used by Longstreth and evidently for a daughter
Martha. After murder of Frank Swearinger, some of the family are
buried here.

Attached copy of the murder, located from probate records in court
house, Iowa County; Reason many stories sifted down, and still are,
one being the skull for years was in the court house. This was not
the first murder in Lincoln Township, the other is listed in history
on page 759

None of these people appear in the 1850 census of either Iowa or
Poweshiek County. No attempt made to locate ancestors,

Condition
The owner of the land Roger Kusel, keep it mowed, very nice and is
quite attractive, on south side of their garage next to the road

Remarks
Some of the stones, difficult to read; Probably the most difficult
was F. Weidemeeir; The dates were plain, but the name difficult;
As some Weidemeeirs were known to have been buried there, this name
appears best. How many stones originally there were is difficult
to say, because of change of ownership. It is my opinion there are
more Weidemeeirs,

Researched by Pauline Lillie-Ladora.
