The many friends of Mr. Chas Graham of Arthur, are greatly pained by the news of his untimely death.  Such men are none too plenty and the loss of one such individual brings a severe shock to those who knew him best and appreciated his sterling worth highly.

Mrs. Frances Bowers, mother of A.B. Cooley, died Tuesday morning after a long and painful illness. The funeral will be held on Thursday and the remains will be buried in the cemetery north of town. (Holstein)

A girl baby was born to Mr. and Mrs. Thos. McLeod of Tuesday.

Mrs. Louis Hobart died at her home in Grant twp, Tuesday, December 31,1895.  Funeral services will be held tomorrow in the Grant twp. Lutheran Church.

Frank P. Moore and Miss Mary D. Hasert, both of Ida Grove, were married Sunday afternoon last at Hotel Hidden, Rev. Chittick officiated.

E.W. Kirk, a cousin of H.M. and Arthur Whinery and Mrs. Floyd Willits of this city, died on Monday of this week at the home of his parents in Bangor, Iowa. Mr. Kirk was a successful merchant tailor, his place of business being in Marshalltown.   he was a young man of much promise and his untimely death is deeply mourned by all who knew him.

Charles H. Graham died at his home in Blaine twp., Tuesday evening, December 31.  He had been suffering an illness, presumably typhoid fever, since the first part of November and although apparently a man of strong constitution he gradually gave was to the workings of the disease.

Charley Graham, as he was know to is friends, was a successful farmer and stockraiser and one of the foremost citizens of his township and county.  He had a broad mind and a kind heart and the friends who mourn his death are legion.  He was about 45 years old, just in the prime of life, and it would seem should have many more years left.

The funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the late home of the deceased, and will be conducted by the Masons, having been honorary members.

Married at the home of the bride’s parents in Battle twp, on Tuesday evening, December 31, Miss Sarah Brown, daughter of James Brown, to William Nicoll, son of Rev. D. Nicoll, the father of the groom officiating.

The contracting parties are among the most prominent and popular people of town.

Married at the home of the bride’s parents in Oskaloosa, January 5,1896, Rev. John M .Baugh of the First Presbyterian Church officiating, Mr. J.F. Maritz of Ida Grove and Miss Giselle P. Hutchins.  Mr. Askan of Des Moines was best man and Maggie, youngest sister of the bride was maid of honor.   The bride is a niece of the late Justice Bradley of the U.S. Court.  She is endowed with all the native charms of her sex blended with many acquired attainments and although one happy home circle is now broken, another has been formed.  The groom is a pushing, energetic young farmer who well deserves the good fortune that has befallen him.   Mrs. Maritz is a sister of Mrs. John Sykes of   Hayes twp.

Married by Rev. T.N. Buchanan at Ida Grove on January 7,1896, Mr. Thomas Hilton and Miss Winnie M. Ary, both of Mapleton, Iowa.

Died on January 6,1896, at her home in Corwin twp., Anna S. Ward, aged 75 years, wife of I.W. Davis.

Deceased was born in Orange County, NY, on January 29,1820, and was married to her surviving husband on October 25,1852, and with him came to Iowa in 1855.  In 1872 Mr. and Mrs. Davis removed to Ida Grove, settling upon a farm in the southwest part of Corwin twp., where they have lived a very quiet and industrious life ever since.  Some five years ago Mrs. Davis was attacked with heart trouble and it was this disease that took her away.   She leaves three children; Asa, a farmer in Emerson,NE; W.T. who is at home; Elmira, now the wife of Mr. Sol Nichol of this twp., and a husband, all who mourn her death.  The deceased was an old settler in Ida County, a kind mother, a Christian.

Holstein; Again death has visited our town. This time Mr. Walter Ordway has been called across the dark and unknown river.  After a short illness he departed this life on Sunday morning.  Funeral services were held in the M.E. Church on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Rev. Nichol officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed L. Case, mourn the loss of their little daughter, Rosa May, who died last Wednesday, January 8.

The little child of Mr. and Mrs. Center who live four miles north of Ida Grove, died at their home last Monday morning.  The funeral was conducted at the Finley school house on Tuesday, January 14, by Rev. T.N. Buchanan and the body of the little one was laid to rest in the cemetery at Battle Creek.

 Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Rohwer welcomed a bright new boy to their home on Sunday.

Mr. W.F. Kolb and Miss Ivey M. Mentzer were married by Rev. T.N. Buchanan at the Presbyterian manse on Tuesday January 21,1896. These young people belong to two of the best families in Logan twp.  They are both well and favorably known.

Last Sunday evening there was born to Mr. and Mrs. C. Bleakly, a boy.

Mrs. Sarah Jones, wife of William Jones, died from consumption on January 25,1896, at the age of 43.  The bereaved husband had the deepest sympathy of our entire community.

The funeral service was held in the M.E. Church, conducted by Rev O.F. Chittick and the body was interred in the Diamond Center Cemetery, 13 miles northeast of town (Holstein).

Holstein; On Monday January 26,1896, at 1 p.m. Mrs. Barbara Smith departed this life at the age of 79 years, after a lingering illness.  Interment took place in the Catholic Cemetery southeast of town.

A girl arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Snip Thayer on the Jimmy Jones farm in Hayes twp. last Tuesday.

Miss Gertie Northrup, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Northrup, died of typhoid fever at the home of Kinzie Wiggins in North Ida Grove last Monday, after an illness of only a week.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday.

Mr. Thos. Luney,of the firm of Luney Brothers in Denison Roller Flouring Mills, died at his home in Denison on Friday January 24, at the age of 39 years of lung fever.  He was one of the old settlers of Crawford County moving with his parents there in 1868.  On

June 24,1886 he married Jennie G. Preston, the youngest sister of the Preston Brothers of Battle twp.  She was well known around Battle Creek, having taught in the public school of that place before her marriage.  A family of four children are left to mourn the death.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the M.E. Church which was filled to its utmost capacity by the relatives and friends of the deceased.

Rev. Clark, pastor of the Presbyterian Church officiated.  The K of P Lodge, of which he was a valued member, took charge of the remains and conducted the service at the cemetery.

Mrs. Thos. Somme, owing to her weakened condition from long continued suffering, failed to rally from the effects of the surgical operation to which she submitted at Dr. Wright’s hospital in Carroll last week.  The operation was the last hope of recovery for the lady and she met the alternative bravely although herself fully advised of the small chances of withstanding the ordeal.  She died Friday morning and the sorrowing husband returned to Ida Grove with the remains. Funeral services being held from the Friends Church in this City on Sunday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Sweet officiating.

Mrs. Somme was born in Norway 39 years ago.  She came to this county with her parents        14 years ago and settled in Marshall, Iowa.  Besides the husband there are seven children to mourn her death.
