The
Rutland Band was formed by Director Haines Crosby in the year 1950. The
band was made up of nearly all beginners
but they advanced so rapidly that by the spring of 1951 they ranked third in
the state music contest held at Gilmore City.
In the years 1951-1952,
Mr. Baxter became the leader of the band. The band was reduced in size by
families moving
out of the community. Dean Ulenhopp began work with the small group this
year. Through his efforts many beginners
have started. Next year's band promises to be much improved.
