Strait Family Homestead
SW of Humboldt, IA

This is the homestead of the Strait family taken before 1897.
The believed identification of the persons in this picture are as follows:
Joshua Strait (older man), Orabel and her husband John Bowen Strait, Sr (son
of Joshua) and three sons of John Bowen Strait Sr.
John Bowen Strait Jr., Edward Strait, George Sherman Strait or
Luther J. Strait (one son was taking the picture?).

The 160 acre farm was 1 mile east of Clare, Iowa and 5 miles north.
It was right on the corner  of the road that is directly east of
Pioneer...There was acres of different kinds of apple trees
that the older generations were known for. Also a huge vegetable
garden-& mulberry trees,etc.

According to Mary Strait Stratton who was the granddaughter of Luther J. Strait,
she and her brothers were the 5th generation to live on this homestead.
Mary is the daughter of Walter L. and Mable (Hood) Strait.
After Luther and his wife Isabelle died, this property was sold and the
new owners tore down the house.
