Oliver R. Schram

WEST UNION - Oliver R. Schram died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000 at the Good Samaritan Home in West Union of natural causes.

He was born March 7, 1903 to Edward and Flora (Hesley) Schram, Hayfield. In 1925 he was united in marriage with Flossie Morf of Hawkeye. they moved to the Chicago area, returning to Hawkeye in 1943 to farm and so Flossie could teach country school. Flossie died in 1964. On Aug. 10, 1972, Oliver married Elizabeth (Van Bogart) Flansche. Together they enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables, traveling and were active in the United Methodist Church. They also helped out at the food stands at the Fayette County Fair and entered the flower shows. Oliver was a retired farmer and was active on the boards of the Hawkeye Coop, Hawkeye Cry and Hawkeye Senior Citizen Housing.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth at the Sunrise Guest Home in Fredericksburg; his children; Jack and Maggie, Lakewood, CO and Don and Mary, Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; one stepbrother, Rueben (Betty) Grell, Clear Lake; three stepsisters, Viola (Don) Dalch, Onacock, VA, Francis (Wendell) Robbins, Colorado Springs, CO and Velmodeen Shaw, Cedar Falls; stepchildren, Fay ( Terry) Elliott, Helen (Gary) Schulz, Fredericksburg, Bob (Sue) Flansche, New Hampton, Jean (Larry) Whiteford, Sparks, NV, Maxine (Ward) kuhlman, Howell, MI; 24 stepgrandchildren; 31 stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandchild.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Flossie in February 1964; his parents; one granddaughter, Kaye; one stepdaughter, Lucille Leyh; one stepson, Howard Flansche; three brothers, Floyd, Roy and Merrill; one half brother, Orville; one half sister, Myrtle.
