ST. LUCAS — Edmund V. Goerend, 82, St. Lucas, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000 at the Palmer Health Center, West Union after a brief illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church, St. Lucas with Rev. Marvin Salz celebrating the mass.

Music- for the service will be provided by Kathy Meyer as organist. The pall will be placed on the casket by his wife and. two sons, Bob and David Goerend. Lector for the mass will be Jim Goerend. The offertory gifts will be presented by his three daughters.

Interment will be St. Luke's Cemetery, St. Lucas with Matthew Pavlovec, Ryan Pavlovec, Andy Pavlovec, Jackie Pavlovec, Jolene Goerend and Russell Goerend as pallbearers. Military rites wifi be conducted by Aloysius Schmitt American Legion Post #691.

Visitation will be after 3  p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14 at St. Luke's Chapel, St. Lucas where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary, a 7 p.m. parish scripture service and a 7:30 p.m. memorial tribute.

Edmund was born Oct. 24, 1918 in St. Lucas, the son of Dominic and Minnie (Croatt) Goerend. He received his education at St. Luke's School, St. Lucas. In 1941 he enlisted in the U.S. Army in the 6th Ranger Division. He served four years in New Guinea, the Phil-ippines, Guam and Australia, receiving an honorable discharge in 1945. On Nov. 21,1951 he married Rose Marie Riehle at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler. The couple lived in St. Lucas following their marriage where Edmund owned the Goerend Standard Service Station until 1978 at which time he retired. He was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church and the Aloysius Schmitt American Legion Post #691. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, sporting events where his grandchildren played and loved to share his stories.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie; three sons, Bob (Juli) Goerend, West Union; David (Darla) Goerend, St. Lucas; Jim Goerend, Hopkins, MN; three daughters, Jeanne Adams, Austin, TX; Vickie (Dan) Pavlovec, St. Lucas; Maureen Goerend, Austin, TX; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Frank (Wynema) Goerend, Dewey, OK; Duane (Ernie) Goerend, Salina, KS and Butch (Rose) Goerend, Sacramento, CA and a sister Claudia Noel, Hawkeye.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a son Patrick Goerend on June 28, 1988 and two sisters, Ella Hosting and Lucille Skettel.
