Janet S. Fox, 87

Janet S. Fox, age 87 of Riceville, passed away at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Center in Osage, Iowa on Thursday, May 11, 2000. Funeral services were held on Monday, May 15, at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville. The Rev. Herschel Hawf officiated, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Riceville. Lindstrom Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Janet was born in Waterloo, Iowa on June 30, 1912 to James G. Smith and Jeanie Black Smith. Janet was baptized at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Waterloo. She attended grade school in East Waterloo and graduated in 1930 from West High School in Waterloo. She then worked for the Rev. J.E. Johnson’s as a nanny. On October 30, 1933, Janet was united in marriage to Theis Fox in Waterloo. Rev. Johnson officated at their wedding. Janet and Theis moved to the farm that Theis’ father had homesteaded in 1888 and where Theis was bom. Janet became a member of the 1st Congregational Church in Riceville in April of 1946.

She moved into Riceville in 1974 where she resided until she entered the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center on April 30, 1995.

She worked as a dental assistant and receptionist for Dr. Paul Johnson in Riceville for several years. She enjoyed a small garden and several flowers in her yard on Woodland Ave.

Survivors include one son: James and his wife Rita of Wabasha, Minn., and one daughter, Carol Lou and her husband Adolph Brunner of Riceville. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband Theis on August 2, 1963; a daughter in infancy; a grandson, Dale E. Brunner, on July 19, 1976; one brother, Don W.Smith, and a sister, Alice J. Warner.
