Xenia Cemetery, Eldora Township, Section 28

aka Secor Cemetery

Drive a little more than 2 miles south of Eldora on Hwy 215 to UU Ave. turn left  go just a little ways to 270th st go to V V Ave look to your left on top of the hill and you will find Xenia Cemetery in the southwestern corner of section 28.  In 1860 the thriving town of Xenia was located on this north/south road with 3 churches, a general store, blacksmith shop, wagon shop, a mill on the river, school, post office and several homes. In 1882 the railroad was on the east side of the river.  The town name was changed to Secor in honor of the Railroad promoter. The town is all gone today the only tangiable evidence that it ever existed is the cemetery and the indentations of the Stagecoach road and riples of the water when the river is low where the mill damm used to be. Even the railroad is gone today.

The first burials were in 1857 for Elmira Mason the wife of H. Mason.  The south part of the cemetery is Catholic and those records are kept by Lewis Lawler, 801 Washington, Eldora, Iowa. 50627.  No record is kept of burials as they occur. The cemetery is in sad repair with many broken and misplaced stones.
