TEACHERS 1872-1879
This is a list of Hancock County rural school teachers for the school years 1872-1879. The teachers name is listed first then the name of the school district within the county. The names are spelled as found in the school records.

DUPLICATE SCHOOL NAME ENTRIES
A school district name may be listed more than once during the school year because the teacher was hired to teach for one term, not a full school year. That is why there may be more than one teacher listed for a school district, there was only one teacher in the school during a term. For most schools there were three terms during the year.
As a general rule the first term started the first part of September and ended about the first of November. The second term started the first of December and ended about the middle of March. The third term started about the middle of April and ended about the first of June. Each school would set their own starting and ending term dates. The school would open for a term only if there were 5 or more students in attendance.
