     Killed July 31st at Chateau Thierry. Buried in grave No. 43-A, Fere-en-Tardinois. Son of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Rogers, Winterset, Iowa. Being a lad to whom excitement appealed and having a noticeable contempt for danger, he joined the Battalion Scouts that took control of No-Man's-Land in Lorrraine Sector. At Champagne his services were of great value. Day after day at Chateau Thierry he scouted out every machine gun emplacement and afterward offered himself as a target to draw their fire and determine their location.
