        Son of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Sears, Oskaloosa, Iowa. Private Sears was killed in action July 27, 1918 near Chateau Thierry. Born at Wayne, Nebraska, March 4, 1895. Private Sears was killed by the concussion from a high explosive shell. Private Sears was in the Lorraine Sector with the company, and at Champagne he showed bravery in carrying messages through the bombardment.

      Killed July 27, 1918 at Chateau Thierry. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Gress. Council Bluffs, Iowa. Private Gress was killed by shell fire while advancing with his company to the Ourcq river. Gress was clean cut, honorable and soldierly.
