Honor Roll of Boys who Died Going Over

Ben C. Gelder

Private Company F

#101218

Wounded July 26, 1918 at Chateau Thierry not far from Sergy. Son of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Gelder, Moorland, Iowa. Private Gelder was wounded immediately after his squad was formed to go "over the top", a shell almost severing his leg from his body. He was very jolly and showed much nerve while his wound was being dressed. He died later in the hospital. Private Gelder was a cheerful soldier, and while having his wound dressed made the remark that now he would get to go home and see his mother.
