       Aged 21.

       Farmer, recruited, Marshalltown, May 10, 1917; stationed Ft. Logan, Colo., Pvt. Bat. C, 5th F. A.; transferred to Ft. Bliss, Tex.; overseas Aug. 1917; killed in action, March 1, 1918, in German attack in St. Mihiel salient, north of Toul; first soldier from Marshall county killed in action; posthumously awarded Distinguished Service Cross.
