   Ernest E. Bickford, corporal, Company H, 16th Infantry. For extraordinary heroism in acton near Soissons, France, July 18, 1918. Without assistance he attached an enemy machine gun which was located in a tree and dislodged the gun, but was himself killed while performing this courageous duty.
