She was listed in the 1902 Charles City Public School annual as a senior.

The photo of Emma was likely taken about 1910 to 1914, give or take. Ned Townsend was a photographer in Charles City from about 1900 to about 1914. Emma was listed in the 1911 City Directory for Charles City; she was listed as a teacher, living with her parents at 402 Cedar.

In the 1920 Federal Census, she was listed as a roomer, living with Fred and Henrietta Otto on Gilbert Street in Charles City, Iowa. The photo of Emma probably fell into the hands of the Otto's at about that time. The Otto's were the great-great-grandparents of Betty Silvia, who provided this information and photo to Iowa GenWeb.

Emma seems to have had many siblings; but she was never married.
