Ira Bacon and his family, including a few of his married children to Mahaska County before 11 May 1848. He is credited in the Mahaska County book as one of several other families in the establishment of the county and it's local government offices and boundaries.
Another Bacon family who came to Mahaska County around the same time frame was Rufus & Martin Bacon who settled in the Rose Hill area. Rufus and Martin were brothers, and were distant cousins all who came from the Barnstable, Massachusetts area. These Bacon's came from the distinguished Baconsthorpe & Redgrave Baronets of England. Many of whom served under a history of English monarchs, like Sir Nicholas Bacon, Keeper of the Great Seal of England under Queen Elizabeth I.
