INAUGURAL BANQUET AT COMMUNITY CLUB

Tonight Is Night for Officers; New Fayette Movies Shown; Membership Cards.

To the strains of the Upper Iowa University Orchestra at the Legion Hall at 7 o'clock, and on a stack of membership cards nearly one hundred high, President Austin J. Fox will be sworn in as the Big Chief  of Fayette's newly organized Community Club, tonight, Thursday, November 22. The Board of Directors promise tomahawks for anybody caught swearing at Austin or them, when the townsmen are all needed for swearing in proceedings.

President Fox will then take a few chosen words to make his inaugural address, just like he chooses an overstuffed living room set for  you in his store. and speaking about-overstuffed-what a starter for a winter season of get-togethers when the Westfield township ladies come in off the farms around and set up a feed for which big town hotels would charge a moderately sized college endowment subscription per plate.

And then after the applause dies down, Fayette's first crop of home grown movies will be in order. The college now has the latest in 16 millimeter moving picture projectors, thru the investment of some of that famous "$1200 in 30 minutes" collection Fayette took last spring. By the way Upper Iowa is not the only Iowa college to have that equipment. Galen C. Mlrick has the camera end and has already taken the class scrap and the Peacocks in action on the campus, and most everything down town from Bert Warner to Harry Schrader's lumber depository. Well you have heard of the famous Warner Pictures-see them in Fayette, Mr. Community Man, Tonight.

And when you think that the club was dead two months ago, and here tonight at the Legion Hall, Thursday, Nov. 22, you can get menu, music, and movies for 50 cents, and membership cards for the signing (and paying Harry Schrader), it is some coming-to-life-celebration.

So just because a funeral director, Austin J. Fox, is president, and a minister, Rev. John D. Clinton, is vice president, don't lose hope. Take your telephone in hand, call Sec'y Hettler and say, "Oh, Henry, save me a ticket for tonight."

COMMUNITY CLUB ADOPTS ARTICLES

Second Dinner Was Served to More than Ninety Last Thursday Evening.

At a meeting and dinner in the American Legion hall last Thursday evening, which was attended by more than ninety men of the community, the new Fayette Community Club adopted the articles of organization, the new officers took their places, and a number of new members were added. There was the best of feeling throughout the evening, and as a social affair the second general meeting of the club was a gratifying success.

The exceptionally good dinner was served by the Rural Improvement club of Smithfield and Westfield townships, all the tables being filled, and the guests were regaled during the meal with some fine music by Professor L. E. Blackman with his trombone, Mrs. John D. Clinton accompanying on the piano.

The dinner over, Dr. J. W. Dickman read to Austin Fox a list of the things he is excepted to do as president of the club, and Mrs. Fox responded with a talk, urging all members to work together, and pledging himself to do all in his power to make the club successful and worth while as an organization for the promotion of the best things for all concerned. Members who had paid their dues received membership cards, which here upon their face the letters of the word Community, followed by appropriate endings for each letter, which indicated activities in which the club might with propriety engage. Short talks on what the "C" in community stands for were given by Henry Hettler, Harry Schrade and Professor Blackman. Rev. John D. Clinton, who was the originator of the membership card, talked in conclusion about cooperation, showing that in the word community there are the letters U and I, and pointing out that both "You and I" are necessary in keeping the community spirit up to par.

A business meeting followed, at which minutes were read and the constitution and by-laws which had been prepared by a committee were read and adopted. A vote of thanks was extended to the ladies who prepared and served the dinner, and to the musicians of the evening. Several suggestions were made as to projects which might be undertaken by the club, Allen Carter suggesting a different course of procedure in the publication of a telephone directory, than has been customary; Supt. A. S. Morse pointing out an opportunity in the betterment of the roads over which the school buses pass; Rev. Clinton calling attention to a chance to secure a famous Italian singer for an engagement here. The matter of Christmas decorations was also presented. The club voted to sponsor the project suggested by Rev. Clinton, and further announcement of this will be made later.

Some reels of films were shown. these were of local scenes, taken by G. C. Mlrick, and created a great deal of interest. they included scenes of the class scrap at the college, the Wadena-Fayette high school football game, and some characteristic views of Bert Warner and others. The film taken by the Des Moines Register camera man during Senior Day on the college campus last spring was also shown.

The club meeting adjourned, and immediately afterward there was a meeting of Fayette business men at which the matter of having some suitable Christmas decorations on Main street was discussed. It was decided to procure a number of small trees to be placed along the street. A committee was appointed to look after this and such other plans for the Christmas season as will appeal to children and older folks as well.
